My 1996 grand am 2.4 engine sounds like something broke in it. just put in transmission then motor starting making a loud noise. also sounds like it jumped time. noise is coming from around the timing belt

I'd feel best if you can find a reputable mec and have it looked at. There are a mess of things that can make loud noise. You could have anything from a bad berring to a blown engine. When your'e on the road remember go to someone who is reccomended or a national chain or dealer..

were you on hard ground when you tried turning on 99 % of your 4x4 your wheels have to be in very loose dirt ,sand. snow. mud when turning sharp if you were on a hard surface the sound was your front axle trying leave your 4x4 but if you were not look at your transmission mount and motor mounts i actually sheered off my tranny mount trying to crawl sharply over large rock i was in dakota my truck engine attached to front axle axle turns motor shifted trans mount broke
Spark plug housing? Did you remove the wires? You may have crossed them to the wrong plugs. This noise is not something to guess at and you should not continue driving it, you could damage it beyond repair. Get it to a tech asap.
