2005 Taurus wipers won't park in the normal position when the wiper switch is turned off. Also, the intermitten function will not work properly, but the slow & fast selection wipe normally.

The common way of controlling wiper speed is to use a 'tapped' resistor that supplies reduced voltage to the wiper motor on all but the fast setting.
They have to dissipate a good bit of heat and are subject to failure; I think yours has done that.

The resistor could be anywhere but most likely under the hood.

    Look on the firewall first.

I've never seen one mounted or integrated with the motor since they do produce a fair amount of heat and the motor could produce enough of its own.

There are more elegant ways to control motor speed but they can produce high frequency interference in radio receivers unless very well designed.

It's just cheaper and less complicated to use proven stuff.

What would cause the windshield wipers on my recently purchased Jeep Patriot Sport work on every speed except the high speed. High speed doesn't work at all.

The intermittent switch has a bad contact in it for the high speed, i would say, most likely will have to replace it.

Wiper control problem.

Lift up once: results in one swipe

Pull down to position 1: results in intermittent wiping

Pull down to position 2: results in constant slow wiping

Pull down to position 3: results in constant fast wiping

1985 gmc k1500 wipers only move at 1 slow spped, interminttent doesnt work at all. How fast is fast and why is fast not working?

Slow is the same speed as 'mist'. Mist is when you twist the control arm backwards to induce a single swipe. If you hold it, you will run the wipers in low speed. Fast is faster than that. Probably by 30% or more.

Turn the wipers on high speed. Wiggle the connector at the wiper motor. If the wipers run sporadically as you wiggle the connector, you either have a bad connector or a bad circuit board on the wiper motor.
