I have a 2006 Kia Rio 5. It hestitates (dead spot) for a few seconds when turning the key and then it starts. It also has done it twice on two seperate occasions, where it wouldn't start at all and I had to get a boost. I got a new battery, spark plugs and starter, cause the dealer couldn't find nothing wrong. The first time I took it in for the problem, it did do it for them, the second time I took it in, it wouldn't do it for them. Now, I'm stuck on what to do??
Thank you! You would think that the dealer checked that when they put in the new battery!:)Thank you!

The wiper motor has a park mode built in. It's one of two possible problems. The park mode is bad and the motor needs to be replaced. Usually this can be identified by the wipers stopping all over the place.
The second is that the linkage off of the motor has moved, and it will park in the same spot all of the time. Here you need to release the motor to linkage nut, and move the arms to where they should be, and retighten.
This would appear to be the start of GLOW PLUG failure. Raise the hood and Swich On the Ignition.
With a volt meter,... test the supply voltage on the Glow Plug supply terminal connection. If this is GOOD, Switch Off the ignition and remove the Key.
Remove the Glow Plugs with a Long shank socket.
Make up a length of 14/16 gauge wire, stripped about 1 inch from each end. Attach 1 end to the Battery Pos.+ Terminal, and holding the other end, take each Glow Plug in turn, and hold the PLUG BODY onto the Neg.- Terminal, and TOUCH and HOLD the wire to the Plug TERMINAL CONTACT. If the Plug is GOOD it will SMOKE and GET HOT. If more than 2 Plugs do not react then JUNK them ALL, and replace them. If only 1, then just replace it solely. Make sure on re-installation, that the PLUG, is FIRM and SNUG in the receiver. Disconnect your Supply from the Battery, and attempt Start Up procedure.
Let me know how you get along.

hi.. Many cars these days are equipped with an immobilizer. (you can find more information about the immobilizer in your owner's manual). The immobilizer allows the engine to run only if the correct key is used. If your car has an immobilizer, you probable see a "Security" or Key-shaped light coming on on the dashboard every time you turn the ignition ON. If this light is flashing when you turn the ignition ON, it could mean that there is some problem with an immobilizer or the system does not recognize the key. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, the engine wold not start at all, or would start and then die in few seconds. You can try a spare key, if it won't work, your dealer is the place to call. Sometimes, the key is just need to be reprogrammed. On some cars you can find the information how to reprogram the key in the owner's manual...
Thank you!
