Have a 1984 Toyota Maual pickup 4 cylinder, Put in new battery but still nothing when turning key, have head lights but absolutly nothing else.

If the starter is not making any noise then try tapping the starter while someone tries to start it.if the car turns over then you have a bad spot in the starter and will have to be replaced.

When u put a new chain on. Water pump,seals,guides should also be replaced. New force causes pressure on old parts. Library sec629 has shopmanualsx

Most likely a fuel pump problem, locate the diagnostic check connector under the hood and turn the key on then put a jumper wire between the terminals FP and B+ if it start then the fuel pump is ok and the problem may be the EFI relay or efi fuse

I turn the truck off and then went to restart it about 2 min. later and the truck did nothing the lights in the dash were very faint and would flash on and off. but if you put the key and turn it to run...

Turn the dome light on and then watch it wile thrying to start it if the light goes off than you have a dead battery. The beeper does not take much juice to run.

remove batt neg cable, and bridge it with a test light , if the light is bright you have a draw, pull each fust individually to locate live circuit

turn on the head lights and while someone watches the head lights try to start the car, do the headlights dim or go off get back to me and we'll go from there

Need to change ignition lock cylinders

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove steering wheel, if necessary, steering column garnish, if equipped, upper and lower covers, Fig. 7. On Starlet models, remove upper cover.
  3. Disconnect electrical connectors from ignition switch.
  4. Turn ignition key to ACC position and remove ignition key cylinder.
  5. Remove screw and ignition switch.
  6. Reverse procedure to install.

Overheating and water mixed in with oil

Absolutely correct. Have cylinder head dye tested and checked for warpage before re-using. Do not run the engine any more than necessary ( into the garage or onto flatbed on it's way to shop) or you risk doing damage to engine bearings.
