I have a 1988 Bronco 2, 2.9l engine. The inertia switch has shut off the fuel flow on 3 occasions. There was no collision involved at any time. I have been able to reset the switch each time but it continues to occur every 3 or 4 months or so. Could the switch be faulty and needs to be replaced or is resetting it each time the way to go?

If the switch is popping for no known reason then the switch needs to be replaced. So if you know that your fuel pump electrical is good, and that your fuel pump is good, nothing causing any issues, replace your inertia switch and it will stop. Ford had this issue for many years.

Where is inertia switch on 2015 ford transit 150

It doesn't have one. Below is the manual instructions to restart pump should you have a minor collision.

In the event of a moderate to severe

collision, this vehicle includes a fuel pump

shutoff feature that stops the flow of fuel

to the engine. Not every impact will cause

a shutoff.

Should your vehicle shut off after a

collision, you may restart your vehicle. For

vehicles equipped with a key system:

1. Switch off the ignition.

2. Switch on the ignition.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to re-enable the
fuel pump

Inertia switch keeps cutting off while cranking engine

Power goes from the fuse box to the fuel pump relay to the inertia switch and then to the fuel pump motor.I would suggest bypassing the inertia switch for now just to see if you can get the vehicle started and go from there. FYI The inertia switch is just there in case you get in a collision and shuts fuel off. Good Luck

How long should i wait after pressing the inersia switch on a 2000 ford contour

How long should you wait for what??? The inertia switch is only for the purpose of shutting the fuel pump off in the event of a collision. If it has turned the fuel pump off because you have hit a VERY hard bump or have been involved in a collision, pressing the button resets it immediately....there is nothing to wait for.

How can you tell if the inertia switch is reset? I can still see a red line in the switch.

The fuel pump inertia switch button will be flush with the switch housing when activated. Just need to depress the switch till you hear a click. You can also test the switch by giving it a sharp tap with your hand. It'll trip the switch when you do.

FUEL PUMP SHUT-OFF SWITCH

If the engine cranks but does not start after a collision, the fuel pump

shut-off switch may have been activated. The ''Fuel Reset'' indicator light

will illuminate in the instrument cluster. The shut-off switch is a device

intended to stop the electric fuel pump when your vehicle has been

involved in a substantial jolt.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

2. Check the fuel system for leaks.

3. If no fuel leak is apparent, reset the fuel pump shut-off switch by

pushing in the button on the switch.

4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Pause for a few seconds

and return the key to the OFF position.
5. Make a further check for leaks in the fuel system.

Your vehicle's inertia switch is located behind the left side of the dash, above the brake pedal behind kick panel, there should be a hole to push reset button down. Just flip the switch back to ON position

1994 econoline fuel system electrical

Vehicle Application Escort/Tracer, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis, Thunderbird/Cougar, Town Car, 5.0L Mustang, Aerostar, Ranger, Explorer, E-Series and Bronco.
  1. The electrical circuit of the Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch may vary per engine/vehicle application.
  2. Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch with fuel reset light (F-Series and Bronco).
  3. Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch with fuel reset light (Town Car).

Fuel Pump Circuit Operation When the ignition is switched to the ON position, it turns the EEC Power Relay on. The EEC Power Relay provides power to the EEC-IV processor and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse, current flow is through the fuel pump relay and Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch to the fuel pump. The IFS switch is a safety device used to shut off the fuel pump in the event of a collision. If the IFS switch is "tripped," it must be reset by depressing the white or red button on the top of the switch. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the fuel pump will operate. If the ignition switch is not turned to the START position, the PCM will shut the fuel pump off after approximately one second. The PCM will operate the fuel pump when the ignition is in the START position to provide fuel while cranking.
After the engine starts, the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump unless the engine stops, engine speed drops below 120 rpm, or the IFS switch is "tripped."

System Diagnosis Note: Grounding the FP lead at the DLC will allow the pump to run continuously with the ignition switch on.
