You probably have a system that requires R-12 refrigerant. Look for an ID tag on the evaporator box or possibly on top of the compressor. It will say what type of refrigerant is used and how much the system holds. Late model systems use R-134a and use different size high and low side service ports. You must have a refrigerant license to purchase R-12 in most states.
REMEMBER : Do not overfill the system. Putting in the right amount will produce best results.

It was originally equiped with R12 most likely but you will not be able to get that anymore and need to convert to R134A. The conversion kit gives you several items including oil, freon, coupler attachments for low and high sides and dryer filers that need to be installed.
