Drivers side mirror not working correct- up and down works ,but side to side does not

hey
it could be a bad switch if they both malfuntion the same way the only thing they have in common is the switch so most likely the switch.bad plug can also cause this.

SOURCE: Drivers side window, mirror and doors locks not working

check fuses and relays first. It may be a defective contol switch

check releys and wires in door jam 1 might be broken failing that u need a new switch

The passenger mirror system is designed to point down when reversing- if the mirror adjust switch is to the driver side. If you don't wish to have it do this, keep the adjust selector switch pointed to the passenger side. If that switch is malfunctioning it could also explain why you cannot adjust the driver's mirror.

The drivers side rear view mirror is loose. How can I tighten it down?
Put a sheet metal screw between the mirror and mirror body below the mirror. This will allow the mirror to still break free and swing if you hit something kinda hard, but will keep it from moving freely. There is no other way to tighten it. It's just a case of the spring becoming fatigued.

I had what sounds like the same problem on a 2001 GTI VR6 and found that the solder joints on the driver's side door lock module were cracked. I removed the module and resoldered the joints. This corrected the remote functions, key in and lights on dinging and dome lights lighting when the door is opened. Still working on correcting the power mirrors but everything else is working again.
