They changed the radiator and then told you need the engine overhauled? That tells me you don't want to deal with them! Any shop should have tested things out not just arbitraly start replacing parts. So unless your vehicle is still under warranty, then I would take it somewhere else to have them work on it.

Since I am not there to check out your vehicle, this is a WAG on what is going on with your engine.

Since you started off with misfiring - that could be a sign that your spark plugs are being fouled by oil or a few more things. But not usually an indication of a cracked block at least at that point.

But then you add the overheating into the equation - depending on how fast it overheats - right away (a couple of blocks driving) could mean either a blown head gasket or a cracked block but slowly could mean low coolant; radiator blockage, and so many more things.

If your engine was misfiring, you should have gotten an error code from your computer, which if acted on right away could have been a much cheaper fix. Now with what should like either a blown head gasket or maybe even a chrack block you are talking major work and dollars!

It looks like your water pump on a 3.5L is run off the timing chain. I got some info which may help see it but may not be the exact as your car. If you are having some problems with overheating from what I saw looks like you have 2 thermostats and after changing thermostats, you can have air trapped in your engine, which will still allow engine to overheat.

Why do my temperture gauge rise when im idle and drop when im moving 2002 Infiniti qx4

Hi Delevain:
This is a fairly normal circumstance.
When you are moving, there is an increased flow of air through the radiator. That cools the fluid, and thus the lower temp indication.
When you are stopped, there is very little air flow through the radiator (just from the fan) which results in the engine being able to heat the fluid faster than it can cool in the radiator. And the temperature increases.
As long as the temp does not increase to the point where daage could occur, all should be good.
Cheers.

2000 INFINITI QX4 AFTER ENGINE CHANGE CANNOT START ,COMPUTER PROGRAM ?

Ok, first you need to check the basics for the engine to start:
1) Fuel
2)Spark

If no spark, check connections to the Cam Position Sensor.
If both are present and still no start, check compression.

I hope this helps!!
