Question about 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage

1 Answer

1997 Mitsubishi Mirage key stuck in ignition. Happened several times over last few weeks but now seems to be really really stuck no matter what I try. Steering wheel doesn't reach a locked position - that sound /feel where you know it's locked. Someone said the power lock cable can be disconnected and the key will come out of the ignition again (?)

Nope the tumblers in the ignition cylender are worn and bent causing the key to be stuck. Ask any locksmith and they will agree
replace it with new lock cylinder

I had this problem. Turns out my key had to be facing only one direction. If you put it in backwards, it was initially hard to turn on (my daughter did this and "forced it"). Then we couldn't turn it all the way off. Stuck in the ignition for like 6 months. A friend moved my car and when he turned it off, it went all the way off. I don't know if he forced it. Needless to say I'm careful about how I put the key in now!

Key wont go into ignition

could some thing have been inserted into the ign switch ?if not there is a metal tab that is part of the cylinder lock mechanism which after time and use can break away and stop key going into the barrel, the ign lock barrel will need replacing , will need to be done at a repair shop as need key inserted to remove, so will need a strip down ,a specific technique to remove when key won't go into lock is needed to remove/fit new lock

Honda odyssey 1997, key stuck in ignition, wont let us push it in to turn the last click.

Does this car have an automatic transmission. If so does the shifter have a button on the side of the handle. if it doe's there is a switch inside that maybe stuck and will need to be fixed or replaced. It is this switch that is causing the key to be stuck.

This happened to me two weeks ago in my 2006 Ford Fusion

Good Luck

Has this car even been in an accident where the airbags deployed? I had this occur on my Chrysler after an accident, so it may be a feature to insure that you get it repaired properly. In my case the car was totaled, so no repair was made.

Where is the ignition timing adjustment connector?

On this car the ignition timing is controled by Engine Control Module (ECM) and is not adjustable. However it can be inspeced using a scan tool.

Toyota Problem

You will need to replace the ignition lock cylinder, one of the pins that code the lock is stuck or broken. Have the new cylinder keyed to fit your original keys, the dealer or a local lock smith can do this for you.
