A glo plug is basically a heating element that heats up the cylinders to allow for easy starting of a diesel engine. there should be one per cylinder. if it is a diesel, you could have an air bubble in the fuel system, which will cause it not to start. You would need to take it to a shop to bleed the fuel system.

Can You Help?

Sounds like your starter. They don't just go out all at once most of the time. Its a gradual thing. Eventually it will just not work one day when you go to start your car. I'd get that checked. hope this helps.

Does a toyota hilux surf 1995 diesel have spark plugs and points as in the days of yore??

Diesel engines don't have spark plugs. They use compression and heat to fire the diesel. Most diesel engines have glow plugs which are designed to preheat the combustion chamber to help burn the diesel fuel when you start it up. Hope this helps.

Overheat

radiator could be blocked there is a drain tap on the bottom undo and flush out when cold or another problem could be in the top of the water pump there is a thermostat which sometimes rusts closed and restricts water flow intern creates over heating and high pressure which then makes the radiator build pressure and drop the water through the over flow hose you can run the car with no thermostat but it will run cold most of the time meaning no heater or very little heat
