Very weird, a bad cat should not make it mis-fire, if it is just one cylinder it is mis-firing on, its worth checking the coil pack for that cylinder
SOURCE: had a cambelt break on
Its because your pistons on 1&4 are up top that is why your bent valves got bent you are doing exactly the same thing so turn the crank back 15degrees position your cam and reset your crank,it seems to me you may be out of your depth lets hope not or it may be expensive

Have you checked for a re-manufactured engine with a warranty??

the pistons dont hit the valves when running because the timing belt keeps the pistons and valves in time, that is when a valve is open the piston is on its way down or back up when piston nears the top of its travell the timing belt is timed so that the valves close.
when you brake a timing belt werever the valves are they stay there. the pistons keep moving awhile because of inertia from the flywheel.
no matter were the the camshaft stops after the belt brakes there will always be some valves open.your motor has 4 valves per cilinder. if belt brakes on your engine the valves and possibly pistons will be damaged

Please idenify your vehicle = make- model - engine -year. thanks....
I can't understand most of what you wrote but I gather that an exhaust valve (or more) have contacted the pistons and that one broke off and destroyed the corresponding piston?
If that's the case I'm assuming it's a twin cam engine? The primary cause of a failure like that is a bad timing belt that has allowed the exhaust cam to go "out of phase". If you have a timing chain then the cause that's most likely is a bad chain tensioner. There are less common causes as well but as it stands, you are far better off replacing the engine than you are trying to repair what you have. The only right way to do that job is to remove it from the car.
Parts are expensive. A decent scrapyard engine will usually run you half of what the repair parts will cost. In doing a replacement, the cause becomes interesting information but not essential to getting it back on the road!!
