One common problem on older fuel pumps is that the contacts for the fuel gauge get corroded over time. This can be repaired rather than replacing the fuel pump. Of course you have to remove the pump to do it. On my car there is an access panel to the pump, so this is only about a 20 minute repair and $25.00.
The gauge problem could be external to the pump and be a connector or wiring problem also.

99 bravada no communcation with scan tool and fuel gauge not working

Fuel gauge failed or fuel sending unit go to bad. Check it taking off the fuel pump.
The No Comunication condition could be a wiirng or harnesses lose, check it; if not, PCM or BCM go to bad.

Good luck.

My 98 Olds Bravada will only start if I spray ether into the carb. Any suggestions?

Hello alfred12954,

Your description sound like the fuel pump is not working. If you have a fuel pressure gauge it should read 60 - 66 psi with the key on. If it reads lower than 60 but more than 0 psi it won't start replace the pump.

If it reads 0 psi you are possibly looking at a wiring problem.

2000 oldsmobile bravada, won't start. I replaced

This sounds familiar to me. I assume you replaced the fuel filter, if not, do so. Anyway, the same thing happened to be and I made it to the garage somehow and they said it was the pump, located inside the tank. 3 days later I picked it up and paid $350.00. It happened again a month later and I had it towed home ( the service garage changed hands and would not honor warranty). I unbolted and unstrapped the gas tank with a jack under it. The gauge said 1/4 tank so I figured on 40 lbs of fuel plus the tank.....wrong.... The tank was empty and the fuel pump had never been replaced. I has just never run my tank down that low before, so I had no way of knowing the gauge/float was miscalibrated. You never know....

Fuel problem

Check your fuel pressure at the Shredder valve, you should have 60PSI to 65PSI. If you have less then that or more then that your going to have problems with your fuel injection system. The other thing to is to check your fuel pressure regulator. Hook up the fuel pressure gauge and turn the ignition switch to the run position to activate the fuel pump. Once the pump stops pressurizing the fuel line wait and see if your losing the fuel pressure excessively. If you are then your may have a bad regulator and it's leaking internally. The other thing to is may be a bad fuel pump, The good news is the fuel pump in the sending unit in your bravada can be replaced rather then the whole unit. If it is the fuel pump, Buy a heavy duty pump to install to your sending unit. Don't have them sell you the whole unit, pump alone is around average $60.00 other then the whole unit for $230.00. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help
