Question about 2005 Lotus Esprit

2001 Lotus Esprit

I get a noise like a clicking sound which sounds like a tire with a nail in it.
The noise goes away with the clutch in. I'm wondering if this is the gearbox or cv joint?

What year is the esprit? is the noise audible with the engine running car in neutral and stationary if so and it goes with you foot on the pedal it is the release bearing, this is common and often caused by incorrect adjustment on the clutch fork the correct setting is in the workshop manual.

Heavy steering on 1989lotus esprit
When is the last time the front end has been lubricated, just a thought. My 1991 Lotus Esprit SE also has heavy steering which is normal for these racing suspension's. Its to compensate for over steering, which is easier to do with power steering.

Ticking sounds like a dry lifter, when was the last time you changed the oil and filter? Humming sounds like you need a tire rotation because of uneven tire wear.

US models such as my 1991 Lotus Esprit SE is to the left of the steering column at the bottom of the dash. Reach down and feel behind the dash there will be a rectangular pull or pivot which releases the hood.

I would start by checking your wheel bearings. Do this by pushing back and forth on the top of your tire or car near the tire. If the tire wobbles back and forth at all your hub assembly should be replaced. For this problem I would check for this first.

I have a ticking noise that sounds like it is coming from the tires; as if you put a baseball card on a bicycle tire to make it sound like it was clicking, that is what it sounds like.
Sounds like you may have a nail or 2 in your tire (perhaps gravel). As it goes around it taps the ground making click noise.. However.. since you said - sounds like a card on a bicycle - means to me to be fast clicking, it may be a broken wheel bearing. If so it should be addressed immediately as it could destroy the whole bearing assembly.

sounds like you have a clutch release bearing issue, when u apply the clutch you put a load on the release bearing and stop the noise temporarily..........remember to rate your experience
