Up under the shifter there is a there is a shifter bushing that is located in the shifter housing that is rubber and it will either be gone or worn out and also i would replace the plastic ball that goes onto the end of the shifter...to access the shifter you will have to pull back on the carpet and on each side of cover will be 2 screws that you will need to take out and pull the cover up past the carpet....once you have done this where the shifter arm goes into the shifter housing there is a flange that has a spring in it and you can take a screwdriver and push down on the flange and turn and it will release the shifter so you can access the bushing and the ball.....let me know if i can help you in any other way and let me and fixya know how i did and a thumbs up and a comment would be appreciated....i have done hundredof these and this will fix the problem and make it feel like a new trans....i am pretty sure that you can only get these parts at the dealer........good luck and have a blessed day.......thanks......

In 3rd and 4th gear my transmission isn't wanting to fully engage as easily as it has in the past and then will sometimes pop out of gear. When shifting into 3rd or 4th and if I pick up on gear shifter slightly then they engage easily. Do you think this could also be the shifter bushing going bad? Thanks!

what model and year of toyota do you have......if it is the same as this truck i would say yes and it is the most common issue on these models that i have seen since i have been working on them for over 20 yrs now and it is the cheapest and easiet place to start.......if you could give me a good comment and a thumbs up it would be appreciated.......

Did you check the transmission fluid level? if it is OK, then you need to have a transmission specialist look into this.

I have a 94 Tercel - 4 speed on floor. I cannot put it into 4th gear without it popping out. I was told it needed a new shift cable. This car apparently has 2 cables. One for 1st and 2nd and one for 3rd...

Any car I ever had which had manual shift and was popping out of gear meant that it was time for another transmission. A junkyard can tell you what years and models of toyota transmissions will fit.
Yes they usually have two shifter cables, pull the console and look under your shifter.

I have a 94' Toyota pick up truck. 2wd, 5spd and my transmission or something is grinding pretty often, I might shift too quick. But it sounds like a roaring while driving, and sometimes it sounds like...

Sounds to me like your transmission is just plain worn out from running with no fluid in it. I have an early 5 speed from the 1988 Toyota that works fine if your interested. I have the same from an "84 in my "86 Toyota pickup I just took off the road last January. The '94/'95 should be the same if you want to keep your truck on the road. Mine had frame rot, typical of these trucks.

1991 toyota camry automatic. Transmission is fine

sounds like you may not even have a 4th gear. worst thing is you may need a new transmission. try putting in some "Lucas Transmission Fix" it's like $12 at Autozone.. If that doesn't help, take it to a transmission shop and have them check inside your transmission to see if you need a new transmission or if it's something that could be fixed. It may even be a sensor.

1st, 3rd & 5th gear

how about the 4th gear?

if its fine in the 4th gear, its your transmission. if you have automatic I would try to replace the auto trany computer if you could find it at the wrecking yard.

My Toyota pickup jumps out of gears a lot

You will have to remove the boot from your shifter and then remove teh bolts that hold the shifter in place. when you remove the shifter you will see in the transmission a white plastic piece. this piece wears as time goes by with toyotas and allows the shifter to pop out. Luckily for you its an inexpensive piece and an easy repair.
