1993 Pontiac Grand Prix Logo
Posted on Jun 21, 2011

I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix LE 3.1. I can be driving down the road and when I slow down my car will die. If I keep it at least coasting and put in neutral it will start again usually. If I am parked somewhere and it decides not to start I can push the gas all the way down and it might start but a lot of the time it is like it is not getting any gas. Sometimes it also dies when I go to take off from a stop. It doesn't do it all the time. After it dies and I get it started again it usually runs good until it decides to die again. It doen't matter how much gas I have. Can someone give me and suggestion as to what to try, PLEASE?

1993 grand prix dying

provided you don't have a vacuum leak, (check all hoses for tightness and cracks with engine running) it's probably your idle air control valve or sensor.

Car drives good but it died while driving

I'm leaning toward a bad crankshaft sensor. There's a couple of experienced GM guys on here, so we'll pass it by them first just to be sure.

Idle problem

throttle position sensor is what I replaced on mine. Could also be a short in a wire that controls throttle. That was 6 years ago and it was $100. Took it to a shop, that's all I got.
