Check your fuse panel for a blown fuse. Schematics for fuse panel should be in owners manual. Good Luck!!

Cigarette lighter in front and in back does not work in my 2000 v 70 volvo i just bought, could that be a fuse?

Definately sounds like a fuse if 2 locations are not working. Cigarette lighters are 2 wires to hook up so to have a faulty port is highly unlikely. Check your owners manual for the fuse location. It will probably not be under the hood in that fuse box but under the steering wheel up and under the dash. No big deal though.

I have just bought my 8th Volvo, I love the car and it drives like a dream as usual but on buying the 2001 S40 I bought a sat nav, not realising charging it would be a problem with no 12 V Socket in the...

Just buy a cigarette lighter socket and install it yourself.
Supply it from the vehicle +12V accessory power; don't forget to also connect 0V (ground) to the socket metal frame.
Accessory power is normaly used on the vehicle to power heater fans, radios etc.

Where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter socket?

under the left panel beneath the steering wheel is the fuse box. fuse #2 which is the first switch in the middle row is for the cigarette lighter.

2000 volvo s70 cigarette lighter won't work

test the lighter socket itself by putting a everyday common voltage tester or "multi-meter"in it. place the positive wire on the tester to the center of the socket and the negative to the side of the socket. if no voltage reading, keep the positive where it is and move the negative probe on your tester to a new location that you "know" is a negative like a screw on the door jam area. ( find an unpainted surface"). if you get a reading now then you know the negative on the socket is not connected somewhere in the path. do the same with the positive..... good luck.

I don't own a volvo so no. Does the cd changer work ?

If not then that fuse needs to be replaced. as your dealer was kind enough to give you a hint (check the fuses on each side of the #30 fuse). and replace if necessary.

12 Volt Cigarette Lighter / Accessory dead

Most likely just replace it. You could pull the fuse and then use a small screwdriver to try and pull the tabs inside the receiver in toward the center a little. It could be that repeated insertion and extraction of the lighter or accessory plug has bent them outward enough that they're not making sufficient contact to power what you plug in. If that doesn't work, replace it and then put the fuse back in.
