2011 Ford Edge was purchased brand new one month ago. while driving today the "low oil engine pressure" alarm activated. oil was subsequently checked and is at proper level. Engine starts, but alarm remains.

The obvious answer is the engine has low oil pressure.
Assuming the engine oil level is ok, someone would need to check engine oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to find out if the problem is the engine or the oil pressure switch.

The oil light means the engine oil pressure is below 10psi.
Could be a faulty switch, or it could actually be low oil pressure.
I would not drive at at highway speeds until you get it checked out.
Most auto parts stores will scan the computer for trouble codes for free in hopes of selling you some parts. The code or codes will point you in the direction of the problem with the check engine light.

Sounds like a blown head gasket

The red pressure alarm light is normally activated if you do not have enough oil flow and pressure to the engine.
It can be caused by:

• Not enough oil: check level and top-up. Engine might be burning too much oil or leaking.
• Clogged Oil filter: change oil filter and oil.
• Leaking oil seals: check for any large oil stains and drips under the car.
• Oil pan pump faulty: you need a special tool to check the oil pump pressure - see your auto mechanic.
• Oil pressure sensor is faulty and causing false alarm: see auto mechanic.

May be the incorrect oil , low on oil you may have an oil pressure problem. Have the vehicle diagnosed by a
certified repair shop. Its a 16 yr old car have, the techn do an oil pressure check,check out sending unit and its circuitry . Worse case new engine or partial engine rebuild( pump, cam and crank bearings).
Best case ,low on oil .
