It may appear if there is a particular sensor fails.
Try stopping the indication using the following technique.
Sometimes the problem could be solved.
If you can get an OBD 2 scanner off eBay (US$ 6), you could be able to communicate with your car ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using the smart-phone app.
So that, there is a chance to CLEAR all the error indications.
After that, if problem still persists, it means the vehicle need full scan (you can't do this at home, probably seek a vehicle garage).

HI the air bag controller,or air bag control module uses inputs from the impact and safing sensors to determine if air bag deployment is needed .if at least one impact sensor and the safing sensor are closed ,the controller sends high current pulse to the air bag module.the pulse produces a small electric arc in the air bag module igniting the pyrotechnic material to produce gas expansion and bag inflation the air bag controller also generates trouble codes and energizes a warning lamp if it detects something wrong with the system i hope that will help you but you cannot fix it by yourself without a scanner to define where the problem is.

it means the air bags are inoperative, maybe a fuse or an open circuit, best to have someone with electrical knowledge look at it

perhaps.. I have the same issue on my subaru legacy -- dig into the chilton repair manual- you may have the same issue -- it's called a clock spring which transfers the power to the air bag in the steering column - in my case the cruise control was intermittent also which lead me to the source of the problem.. The good news in my state is that they will not fail you for vehicle safety inspection, the bad news is it doesn't offer any peace of mind.
Otherwise it may be a sensor connection somewhere. Working with the air bag is tricky and dangerous. I would summarize you may have a lot of rust on the underside of your vehicle as well this may be the indicator that your sensor doesn't have good connections. The chiltons manual should detail the how to of finding the problem along with repairs to the air bag system be certain to follow the details for repair safety as you do not want it to go off when you are working on it.
Your local library should have a copy - call ahead to be sure it is available, otherwise you can sign up for a service manual online for your year make model.
