1997 Nissan Pickup, 4wd, 5spd. Engine feels like it has a rev limiter set at 3400rpm. Stumbles in all gears at this rpm and then gets going again at about 3800rpm, but still stumbles -- but not nearly as badly at 3400rpm. Check engine light is on and NAPA mechanic says the code that comes up is for a sensor that monitors the recirculated gas fumes and it is not responsible for the stumble. And, he cannot fiure out what is causing the stumble.

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.

Your Idle Air Control Valve is at fault. These never set a code when they fail and they always fail.

Check this item out on eBay.

They aren't usually this expensive so search the net and you should find a much better deal.

You shouldn't need to worry about the gasket when replacing this. They usually don't tear and stick to the manifold. If it does tear though you should replace it

My mazda drifter 2.5 D don't rev over 3000 rpm and don't go over 120 km when its in 5th gear, its like limiting. What can it be it never did it?

When you rev the engine and does not go over 3000 rpm is this in neutral or when driving in gear? Some vehicles have a rev limiter to not allow rpm over certain point when in neutral gear but is typically not limited when driving vehicle. This sounds like a very low rev limit but not abnormal if you can get engine to rev higher when driving. You call a drifter so truck must be non US market. Is this engine a 2.5 liter diesel 4 cylinder motor. Might just be your top rev and speed if this is the case.

I have a 96 Nissan XE and it starts sputtering and spitting when it hits 2500 RPM. My Guy said he cant fix it because he doesnt have the right port plug for the obd 2.

@jgamble112, sinse it is a specific rpm, 2500, which is where the rev limiter is usually set to stop the engine when reving up, it sounds like the engine control module, or computer as it is commonly called, this is what controls the rev limitermine had smae problem, same rpm, and in gear too, its only supposed to work when in nuetral, but sometimes the computer doesnt recognize the vehicle has been shifted, hope this helps

When driving in 5th gear should the RPMs run at 3000 RMPS. Mine is a 4 cly 5 speed

You don't provide much information to go on (type of vehicle, type of engine, 2wd or 4wd, etc.) RPM is always going to be based on the speed you're traveling with a standard transmission. My 4 cyl 5 speed Nissan pickup in 5th gear runs at 3000 RPM at about 75mph.

Wont rev up

If your check engine light is on pull the codes.

If not it may be your tps sensor.
