I get a p0402 error code on my 2001 ford ranger , what do i have to do to fix this error

EGR Code, but I would have to see & test
whatever parts are there, in that system

Don't just change things & hope for the best

Codes don't indicate what is wrong or what to do

Have to know how to test individual parts,
they have to fail a test before they get replaced

The code most likely means one or more of the following:
-The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs replaced
-There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
-The EGR valve is faulty
-The EGR may not be opening due to a lack of vacuum

SOURCE: Error code P0402 2001 Ford Escape

This might sound crazy but it works with these Escapes most of the time. Go buy a can of Seafoam from your part store. With the engine off, disconnect the brake booster vacuum line and place it in the can of sea foam. Start your engine and keep your foot on the gas pedal and keep the RPM's around 2k.The vehicle is going to smoke like crazy for 10 minutes or so, when the smoke clears up for the most part, go drive it for a couple of miles and see if that helps. It cleans out the carbon buildup from you intake and sensors and takes care of that code you getting most of the time. OR, you purge canister needs to be replaced...

I have a 1999 ford ranger and the check engine light is on. The code I received is P0402. What should I do to fix this problem?

P0402 is "EGR FLow Excessive Detected". The possible cause are a bad DPF EGR sensor, a bad EGRVR solenoid or possibly a bad PCM. The first thing to check is the wiring for breaks and be sure the connectors are clean and tight. Also check the vacuum lines for proper routing and that there are no breaks or cracks in them. I hope this helps and good luck.

Codes p0402 and p1443 96 ranger

this means exactly what it says, the emission control valve is faulty and needs replacing.
Basically the valve is in an open position when it should be shut or partially shut.
Replace the valve and this should cure both codes.

2001 Ford Escape error code P0402

Ok here is the solution when I had the exact same problem with my 2001 Ford Escape:
Replace:

Idler air control valve
EGR vaccum sylenoid
EGR valve

I did all of this work myself (and as a girl it was not hard at all), it cost me around $170.00 for all of the parts, had it done in less than 2 hrs., erased the codes and have not had a problem since then! I hope this helps you out, cuz it sure would have helped me out when I encountered the same problem.
