Having overdrive on, just allows your car to have the option of shifting into it's final gear. When you turn overdrive off, you are preventing your car from using it's final gear. That is the simple function of the overdrive button. Leave it on ALL THE TIME, unless you are towing or going uphill. That is the only time you don't want your vehicle shifting into overdrive.
No, you don't want it on all the time. Especially if your in town driving, stop and go like most people do most of the time. You don't need that final gear unless you are driving over a certain MPH, like I originally wrote. Your welcome to sign up for FixYa and put your "skills" to the test if you want. But you will have to do better than what you typed above to make it on here.

The OD is a extra gear do you need it not really you can drive 150 miles if anything its the switch button that went out
