1999 Buick Century Custom _ Brake Problem My 99 Century has little to no assist and it makes an air hissing sound when depressing the brake pedal. I think that this means that I have a faulty brake "power booster." I am thinking that maybe it is a faulty push rod seal in the booster or something along those lines. The vehicle will stop as long as you press hard enough on the brake pedal and the faster you depress the pedal determines whether you receive any brake assist while braking. A slow action on the brake pedal causes the brake pedal to go kinda mushy with a lot of air hiss with little to no brake assist. I am kind of strapped for money right now and am trying to fix this with the least amount of financial damage, so if you think that it is the "power booster" can I simply remove the booster and repair it with some sort of seal kit or something along those lines or do you recommend that I just buy a new "power booster" altogether? Need to replace right rear brake tube on 1999 Buick century custom

first measure the length of the steel tube to be replaced and diameter of tube cut off each end at the fitting so you can remove that fitting with a 6 sided socket. this will keep the fitting from stripping off the flats on the fitting next spray bleeder with wd40 to help open it so you can bleed the system after you replace that line . take your time with the bleeder as it will twist off if not fully freed up

I wonder if you have an air leak in the brake servo? Check the manifold vacuum as you operate the brakes. Look for bad hoses around brake servo.

Your bake booster has failed causing a massive vaccume leak when you apply the brakes. That in turn gives more air to the system so the computer tells it to add more fuel thus causing the rpms to go up. Replace it %99.5 chance that will fix it.

The brake assist is bad. Its located on the firewall. The brake master cylinder bolts to it. The rod comes from it to the brake pedal

Air/Hissing Noise from Brake Pedal

this noise is caused by a defective power brake vacuum booster, (big round thing behind the master cylinder) the diaphragm is leaking vacuum.

Nope you have to replace them.when brake booster diaphram leaks you cant plug them.i have bought one at salvage yard in good shape.until i got a new one.get your brake booster from inside salvage yard where they stock them inside out the weather.dont take any brake booster off old outside cars been in all kinds bad weather. there vacuum diaphram probably dried up will leak also.

Those hose to your power brake unit may be sucking in or have hole in it.The vavle may need replacing or power brake unit replacement.Before any of that how many miles on car.What have you done if anything to brakes or engine recently

Do you have to lubricate the brake booster are just put it back on and if so excatly where to grease the brake booster and what to use can you use brake grease
