The rubber in the center separated from the metal. You'll have to replace the balancer to fix it.

SOURCE: engine makes a clanking noise,

Its probably the water pump. See if the belts are spining true at idle and also check to see if the weep hole on the bottom of the pump is dripping antifreeze . If it is then it needs to replaced good luck with it

It sounds like a lifter i was told it was the harmonic balancer by several people i replaced it car stick making ticking noise and picks up speed slow

I am curious why they said harmonic balancer and you replaced it, there is a crank sensor near the harmonic balancer was it rattling or loose they have a tendency to get loose, the harmonic is the big main pulley when that breaks because it is vulcanized then yes it tick and your car looses power. You check sparkplugs for being loose and not being tighten up,check the air filter too,I am sticking with the Harmonic balancer this time remove the drive belt but dont do it too long or it will overheat just for 2 minutes maximum see if the noise goes away. 2 minutes only battery wont charge also

Harmonic Balancer issue

sounds like your balancer may have come apart. it shouldn't move at all. to move it you have to make the crankshft turn. i had this happen on a truck once. it made some strange noises, then it started vibrating pretty bad. i shut it off, took me a while to figure out what it was. most of them are actually 2 piece and have a key slot, (a grove cut in both pieces that a piece of metal sits in to keep them turning at the same time). it sounds to me like you need to replace it. it can take some serious effort & tools to replace.

Harmonic balancer

If the car doesn't shake when you are idling, then I its probably something else. Look at all your pullies and check and see if one of them may just need to be tighten.

Engine knocking in front

if the sound is a constant clanking and its awfully loud and people turn their heads when you drive by....and its coming from the front, its most likely the harmonic balancer
