I have a 2001 ford taurus. just started running rough one day number 5 cylinder on the coil pack wasnt sparking so i replaced it. sparks now. however it still runs rough when i open the throttleto high rpm, it hesitates to reach rpm and then after a few seconds dies out any help would be greatly appreciated thanx.

Clean MAF and Throttle body with the proper cleaner spray. The codes should tell you the issue but if you get it onto a high end scan tool, you can access the live data as well.

check for spark in cylinders 1 and 4 if none, replace coil pack. If spark is present replace spark plugs in cylinder 1 and 4

You will need to figure out if you have spark to the plugs, and if not- if you have voltage to the coil to proceed.

I would suggest you run a compression check on this engine and also have the coolant recovery tank tested for the presence of combustion gases with a gas analyzer, any gases would indicate a leaking head gasket. Any engine cylinder that is lower than 5% of the highest reading cylinder in pounds per square inch has a problem like a scored cylinder or leaking intake or exhaust valve seat.

If the spark plug popped out, other mechanical damage to the cylinder may exist due to the detonation.

had the same thing with my crown vic on the #8 cylinder. changed plugs and wires. still missing. wound up replacing the coil pack. you can check resistence of the coil between companion spark plug towers. ford marks each tower with 2 cylinder #'s. resisistence should be around 10-12 ohms

Hello you say no spark again well in the past i have replaced coils on Fords same day the coil pack quit!.So perhaps return it as a faulty pack.Manufactures still makeing defective parts!.Also if you have service engine light on you should have a OBD 2 scan to retreve any electrical faults might be.

If you dont have the proper spark due to a bad coil pack you will not get all the gas burned properly and your manifold will glow red.I would start with the coil pack.!
