My scenic megane will start but only if clutch pedal is depressed (not brake pedal), and as soon as brake is applied when running, it stops. What is the matter with it?

Sounds like you have a standard transmission if it has a clutch.
Start requires the clutch to be pressed in for safety reasons.
If you have it in gear when you press the break the engine
will stall without your feathering the clutch. Sounds like you may not have learned how to drive a standard transmission car yet.
Otherwise there's a short between the clutch safty switch and the brake light circuit.

Engine revs but no acceleration

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. Or one of the CV joints is detached from the gear box. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

What is the ignition immobilizer on a 2000 accent

Hello William. On standard transmissions you have to press down the clutch to start the car, and on automatic transmissions you have to press down on the brake pedal in order to start the car. Look for your immobilizer under the dash at clutch or brake pedals depending on trans. Hope this was helpful, GOOD LUCK.

I was driving it and i pressed the brake and all of a sudden the brake pedal and clutch pedal both went down a piece by the pedal broke an now it wont go in to gear

Hi

the Hydrolic clutch has failed by the sound of it, the clutch on his car shares fluid with the brakes hence why both pedals went down. you might be lucky and the slave cylinder might have failed or lost pressure, this in fact is very common on this car.

Have the slave cylinder checked out and look under the car for any fluid leaks

Regards

Dan

Renault megane, 2004 1.4 dynamique, brake lights not working (both sides but high level one ok) have checked bulbs, fuses, connections at cluster, loom in areas for visible damage, all other lights ok

Seems to me that the brake lights switch has a problem there is a way to test this problem, you normally press the clutch pedal and hold down the start button to start the engine, now try pressing the break pedal down and hold the start button, if the car does not start up change the brake pedals switch.

How do i start the engine of my 54 plate megane. I am worried one day the wires on my clutch and brake may go together - so the engine wont start using the button ignition. is there a default to start the...

There is no default however if the wires break on the clutch pedal it is a very simple repair. The brake start has a diffrent system & is not liable to fail.
