Do you have power at both sides of the brake switch when the brake is applied? If so it sounds like the turn signal switch is bad. try turning on and off the 4 ways a few times. sometimes this will clean the connections and it will start working.
The power goes through the fuse to the brake switch. from the brake switch to the turn signal switch from the turn signal switch to the tail lights. If the 4 ways are on the power goes through the 4 way fuse to the 4 way flashers then to both sides.
If the turn signal is on and the brake is on, the turn switch cansles the power from the brake and uses power from a 3 fuse and flasher for the side that the turn signal is called for.
If I typed to fast let me know. I can answer any questions you might have.
If this helped you please vote 4 thumbs up. :-)
good Luck and God Bless

Are you sure you have power at the brake light switch on one side with the brake off (Light green with red stripe) and both sides with the brake on (Light green w/red stripe and Light green)?
Fuse #1 is 15 amp that supplys BOTH the brake lights and the hazards

I have a 2003 envoy XL, I have replaced. the break switch & the turn signal switch, & 1 curcit board & I have power to the inside fuse box, and tail lights&turn signals work. but no brakes?

Power to the brake lights flows from Fuse 12 in the underhood fuse box to the brake light switch. Check for power at the switch on the orange wire. Power leaves the brake light switch on the white wire and heads rear fuse box under the left rear seat. Power goes to fuse 34 Vehicle stop fuse 15A. From there it goes to the left and right stop bulb connectors on the light blue wires. If you don't have power on the light blue wires, you've got a bad fuse or an open somwhere. Two fuses in the stop light cirucit.

My 08 Chevy Uplander turn signals, break lights, and hazards will not blink. I have power on one wire at the bulb, and ground on one wire, the third wire has no power going to it.

Sounds like you've got two different problems, because the brake lights and turn signals are on different circuits.
1. Brake lights. These should work whether the engine is on or off. Check fuse box for a blown fuse. If OK, check for voltage at one of the lights with the brake pedal depressed. If no voltage, brake light switch under dash probably bad. Fairly easy replacement.
2. Flashers/turn signals. The flashers should work with the engine on or off. If they don't, might be a bad fuse. If that doesn't fix it, might be a problem with the wiring connected to the turn signal switch, or the switch itself.

I have a 2002 GMC 1500hd 4x4 6.0 gas engine. Have no break lights. Tail lights and turn signals work fine. Replaced fuses and stop light switch and still have no break lights

GM had a lot of problems with the circuit boards that house the rear lights. My suggestion is to use a test light clip one end to the trucks body parts then remove brake light switch the orange wire should light the bulb on test light this is the power wire, the white wire is the stop light circuit with switch out this also should be lite up. Drop down turn signal switch connector the brake lamp wire goes up the turn signal switch and comes back down the yellow and green wires no power there it is a bad turn signal switch. If Ok Now remove one tail lamp assembly unplug harness and test for power if still have no power trace wiring back to fire wall and check at bulkhead connector. IF ok then circuit board is bad.

Dash and parking lights don't work , Fuse is good, light switch is good, head lights work turning signals work, and break light work. Any suggestions???

Under the hood on the driver side on the firewall there is the main wire harness it has a rubber boot over the plug. Take the tape off from it and pull the rubber boot back look at the bottom left wire should be red and be a pretty good size wire. That wire will get acid on it just like the battery and sometimes mess the hold plug up. Depending if your truck has power windows or any other etc. there are up to 60 wire on that plug. I had to get another plug and rewire all 60 wires on mine since the acid damaged my plug Dodge has this problem on all trucksicon1.png from 88 to 00

Brake lights and turn signal don't work???

turn on the emergency flashers(e-flashers)if they work check the bulbs at the same time.if this is good then check the fuses.you may have a problem with the turn signal flasher needing replacing.this is a different flasher than that of the e-flasher,looks the same but a different flasher.usually located on or around the fuse panel under the dash.the brake light problem could be a misadjusted switch or a bad switch.the switch is at the base of the brake pedal and has two wires to it.one wire will have power all the time and the other wire will only have power on it when the brake pedal is pushed.if not then the switch will need replacing.check for broken wires at the switch as these sometimes break causing a problem.

Window break light good but actual break lights not working

sounds like you have a bad turn signal switch.

If the third brake light is working than we know the fuse is good and the switch is good. The third brake light bypasses the turn signal switch. If the rear turn signals are working than we also know that the wiring from the switch to the rear bulbs is also good. The brake lights and the turn signals are on the same bulb so the turn signal switch is what determines if the bulb gets power from the brake light switch or from the turn signal flasher. If the switch is bad usually the first thing that stops working is the brake lights.

Typically you can wiggle, jiggle, pull, push on the switch lever with you foot on the brake and get the brake lights to work. Sometimes turning the four way on and off several times will also get the brake lights to work. If this is the case than a new turn signal switch will solve you problem.

If you have any questions let me know!

My break lights do not work at all. 2000 Chevy Lumina- We dont know where to begin to trace the wires we tries tracing them from the rear and couldnt find the right wire. The center light in the window does...

i am CONFUSED? you say they dont work, then you say "when you press down on the brake that the switch for the lights causes them to go off instead of turning them on when messing around with it but couldnt figure this out"........ if NO brake lights work, then check fuse 23. . if the fuse is GOOD then check wires at the brake switch. Orange should have 12V, when brake pedal is pressed then the WHITE should have 12V and lights should be on. the center rmounted stop light (BACK WINDOW) has 2 bulbs, make sure they are good. The center light is wired differently. If the center light works but brake lights do not, the turn signal switch could be bad. I assume THE TURN SIGNALS are OK? IF the turn signals are working OK, the wiring between the turn signal switch and the brake lights is GOOD

Have a 1999 Chev. Suburban. Problem is with brake lights. Top panel (on roof) works but neither side panel works. Replaced circut boards in tail lights, new bulbs, and all fuses are good. What next?

WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST ALL THE FUSES FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUSES ARE ALL GOOD WITH THE TESTER YOU MUST HAVE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT GOES UP THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH & THEN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS. FIRST OF ALL IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOOD ? THE ORANGE WIRE FEEDS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE WHITE WIRE PUTS POWER TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS TURN LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. , PUT A TESTER IN THE WHITE WIRE & PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD, BY THE WAY THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE MAY BE LABELED" STOP", THE FUSE LABELED" BRAKE" IS FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. TO CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TESTER IN THE SMALL YELLOW WIRE, THEN THE SMALL GREEN WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN EITHER WIRE, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD.

Signal and break lights stoped working.I changed the fuses and instald a new signal swich and still nothing.then i seen a macanic about it and he had the car for two days and couldent find the problem.then...

First check the fues in the underhood box, it's labled EXT LAMP make sure it has power to it. If that's good then you need to check for power at the turn signal switch, it's a orange wire. Then you need to see if you have power coming from the break light switch (when you step on the break peddle) thats the white wire coming into the turn signal switch, If that's good then you need to see if you have power coming out of the switch, That's the brown wire, if you do then you need to see if the brown wires have power at both of the light bulbs, if they do then your porblem is the ground or the bulbs themselfs.

ALL BREAK LIGHTS NOT WORKING

Have you checked your brake light fuse? If it is good do your rear turn signals work? If you have turn signal and no brake lights it is probably the turn signal switch these are a common problem and your power for your brake lights goes through your turn signal switch. Sometimes it is actually the hazard switch that melts but this can not be serviced alone. If you have no rear turn signals and no break lights it could still be the turn signal switch but is more likely to be a wiring problem in the rear usually trailer wiring T connections. Chiltons has wiring diagrams in there manuals but they are not always accurate. Let me know if I can help you further and please rate.
