Hi there,

As your vehicle is fuel injected, the engine computer will take care of timing and air/fuel mixture etc.

The main components I recommend you consider changing for general engine tune-up are:
COMPULSORY

- Standard spark plugs (every 20,000km); Platinum spark plugs (every 50,000km)
- Air Cleaner/Filter (every 40,000km)
- Fuel filter (every 60,000km) - very important to keep fuel system/injectors clean
- Engine oil - at least "M" grade or better (every 10,000km)
- Engine oil FILTER (every 10,000km - same time as engine oil change, to prevent contamination)

Automatic Transmission

- Trans fluid - MUST use special NISSAN fluid only (Note: disregard manufacturer's interval - should be changed every 50,000km to prolong life).
- Trans Filter (change every 50,000km with trans fluid change, to prevent contamination)

OPTIONAL

- Injector cleaner additive (add to fuel tank every 40,000km) to keep injectors clean.
- Have your Onboard Diagnostics (OBDII) checked for any fault codes - inspect appropriate circuits for faulty components.

Good luck...

New Plugs, New wires if they are over 5 years old or you see cracking on the outer insulation, a new PCV valve (It's located on the valve cover), check the air filter to make sure it is clean (replace if it isn't) and finally, there is a sponge filter that goes to the air cleaner in some vehicles it goes where that line connected to the PCV valve line, check it and replace if it is gummed up.

Tune ups are always tricky because each model and year has a different itemized list, but these are the things I like to recommend;

Plugs
Wires
Cap and Rotor (if applicable)
Air Filter
PCV
O^2 sensors
Belts (inspect and replace as needed)
Hoses (inspect and replace as needed)
Oil and Oil Filter
Timing Belt and Water Pump (if applicable)
test coolant, brake fluid, and transmission fluid and replace as needed.

  • Plugs - every two years for the single fire plugs up to 90,000 miles for the split fires etc.
  • Wires - every two years on up depending on quality of wires.
  • fuel filter - every 15,000 miles or so.
  • air filter - as needed but every 10,000 miles or so.
  • antifreeze flush - 30,000 miles for green, 75,000 for organic (Dex-Cool style)
  • transmission fluid flush - every 40,000 miles.
  • transmission gasket and filter change - every 100,000 miles.
  • timing belt - every 100,000 miles.
  • Rotate the tires every 6,000 miles or so.

Regards, Tony

SOURCE: 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 transmission

The 2.5 and the 3.5 transmissions are the same except for the side cover where the output gears are. The 3.5 uses thicker gears. They were made in Decherd Tn. Also the bell housing is different. The starter for the 3.5 is mounted in the bell housing and the starter for the 2.5 is mounted to the block.

Where is the crankshaft and camshaft sensor located?

Here's some pics of my 2003 Altima Crankshaft Sensor. Often mistaken by the Camshaft Sensor because both are identical sensors. They are each located in different locations. I've seen diagrams with the WRONG labeling. Again, this is so confusing for even a mechanic to understand because both sensors carry the same part number which is rare. http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/members/digitaldxing-albums-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor-picture331-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor.html

Where is the crank sensor located I need to replace it

Hi, behind the engine (driver's side), mid lower part on the engine block near the transmission. In order to access, you must remove the intake air hose. It will be hard to see it, the only way is to reach down and feel for the electrical harness that connects to it. hopefully this helps!!

You can also locate it by viewing this link..

Crank sensors on 2003 nissan altima 2.5

there are two and they caused me all kinds of hell when i had my altima. one is center right side of the engine. it looks like a small plug. the other is further down on the left of the engine. it looks almost like a rechargable battery with a circle on the top. they cost me 30 a piece at any foreign parts store.
