Fan speed control knob works sometimes and doesnt work at others. No definite reason why. What would cause this and how would i replace it?

Sounds like a loose wire or bad connection. Try accessing the rear of the knob and make sure all cables are securely fixed (it may be a spade fitting or a soldered connection). If you can follow the wires back to the fan check these as well paying particular attention to any connector block that you come across.
It is possible the knob itself is faulty and the circuit/connection makes and breaks randomly, in which case the only option is to replace it

Car wont start after I ran out of gas

Take off the smaller wire off the starter motor. Put the key in the start position and hold it there for a few seconds. Listen for the fuel pump running. If you hear it running then it feels like it stopped, then let go of the key and reinstall that wire on the starter motor. It should start.

I ran out of gas, I tried to pump the air line by pushing in the knob valve to release the air in the gas line, not sure if this is the right valve, it's a 2002 grand am, do you have a picture where the...

Just turn the key on, wait for a few seconds, turn it off. Turn it on again, wait for a few seconds, and repeat this about 5 or six times. Then turn the engine over and see if it will start. When you first turn the key to the "run" position, you should be able to hear the fuel pump cut in for a couple of seconds, and then stop. Listen at the gas cap if you can't hear it from leaning under the car.

This may be a fuel injected engine. On some vechicles when they run out of gas you have to turn the key, but not try to start the car. Give it a few seconds for the gas to feed back through the gas line. Once you turn the key, the fuel pump will start pumping the gas to the engine for the carburator. If that does not work, then give it a little gas, no too much or you could flood the carburator. Try to start the car again.

Make sure that the battery is not DEAD. Now, to be precise , there is no hard and fast rule. You could use the tricks below but if that would not work, you need to tow the vehicle to dealer. Unfortunately, there is nothing much a customer can do in this case.

First of all unplug all battery connection and then reconnect them after few minutes. Check, if that could improve the situation.Secondly, take first key, turn the ignition to the run position. Let sit for 3 seconds. Remove key.Take second key. Turn the run position. Let it sit for 3 seconds. Remove key.Wait for 1o seconds and then try it.

What i have seen on few models, if that's a dealer installed alarm, there should be a valet or reset switch under the driver's dash that you will switch with the ignition key in the ON position to disarm the alarm. You could also try turning the switch to ON, and then installing the battery cable. Be sure you are installing the positive cable first and the negative cable last as well.

There is one more way, you could try. Turn off the ignition key, close all the doors .Wait for app. 90 seconds Unlock the door with remote ( whether door locked or not ) and open door. ( Only if you have a remote key entry ).

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Suburban 1999 abs light on dash on and doesn't work the a/c fan

If it is happening when you change the AC and Defroster Modes as Stated above, You have a Wire inside the Dash in this Location that has Shorted and is Grounding itselt to the Housing for the HVAC Controls. This could cause a fire. I would pull the HVAC Unit and try and Locate the Faulty wire Behind it.
