On the 5.7L Tundra the starter is located under the vehicle not under the intake. On previous models yes it was under the intake but that was with the 4.7L. I know this because I am currently having fun with an 07 5.7L starter. I've done the 4.7L starter so I know that I am correct

got it done. raise the vehicle and do it from underneath. pull the heat shield off the starter, which will be a pain, pull the engine oil dipstick and you will get just enough room to pull it out. It might help to pull the wheel off too. If anybody needs more help post and I'll answer.

I'd say its of moderate difficulty but if you know your way around a wrench youl'll do ok. took me about 3 hours. I didnt need any special tools but you will need plenty of patience or you will just lose it

I had to change mine today on a 2007 5.7 Tundra... Lucky for me I have a friend that is a mechanic and we were able to use his shop and tools. You will want a lift for this job. The starter is located on the passenger side under the exhaust manifold. you will need to remove the front part of exhaust and also the exhaust from the engine..Plus 2 aluminum shields. We were able to get the job done in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours..but he has all the tools and a lift. There is no way I would try this job without a lift

I just did my 2010 Tundra 5.7 and It wasn't as bad as I thought. Found a blog where a guy removed starter by only removing wheel, cats/middle exhaust pipe, exhaust manifold, heat shields then starter. 2.5 hrs

The starter is located under the intake manifold. I've attached a link to pictures of the process. The most useful tip appears to be how to not have to drain the coolant by leaving the Turbo attached and setting it aside while removing the manifold and access to the starter.

I've seen a re-mag starter for as little a $115.00 but I think I would buy the dealer unit to preclude having to do this procedure again in this lifetime.
Have fun,
TF

SOURCE: I need to replace starter

No you do not need to remove the plenums. The starter is removed and installed from underneath the truck of from within the wheel well if the wheel is removed. You should go buy a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for $20 they are indisposable to do it yourselfers and will give detailed step-by-step instructions with pictures.

Starter starts turning as soon as you connect the battery

This would be a hung starter solenoid. usually the best thing to do is replace the starter, the solenoid is located on the starter .

The stater on my 2007 tundra 5.7 will spin but not engage, replaced starter and the issues starts as soon as you connect the battery what could cause this problem

It sounds like you might have a bendix spring problem or you don;t have the wires connected to the right terminals on the starter.

Bad starter?

If the starter turns but the engine does not, the two most common causes are a section of teeth missing from the flywheel, or the bendix drive is not working on the starter.
The bendix gear is supposed to move out and engage the flywheel teeth when the starter turns.

Sometimes I turn the ignition key to start my 2007 4.7 v-8 tundra pickup & I just here a click after trying several times the starter engages . Not several clicks just one . After checking battery...

The problem is the starter solenoid. It will steadily get worse until it just won't start anymore. The solenoid has corrosion between the contacts. When you turn the key the contacts are not making connection. The corrosion will get a little worse each time you crank it.

When I start my 2007 Tundra for the first time in the morning. The starter clicks the first 4-5 times I try to start it. Then it will start and I have no problems with it the rest of the day.I can restart...

The contacts in the starter solenoid are going bad. They can be replaced with new contacts. It is a fairly simple job, but you should remove the starter to gain easy access to the solenoid.
