Hi I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima the service engine soon light is on and the code reads its the crank shaft sensor but my mechanic just replaced it with a genuine nissan part and cleared the code and still comes up that it is the crank shaft sensor and the TCS and SLIP lights come on fairly regularly. None of these seem to effect the running efficiency except the car shut off sometimes right after I start it up but has no problem starting up again

p0152 is bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor code...make sure it was plugged back in or sensor may need replacement or you may have damaged the harness. p1564 is for the automatic speed control device basically the same possibilities with this circuit.

Hello Theengine
and transmission in this cars drive train are fully
electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train
Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer
stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions
to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and
MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory,
to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned
with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must
perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the
problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN
HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON
PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
Had same issue with (re: crank position sensor) on a 2002 Kia. Had all the same work done as you, only to find out with was one of those Kias with a manufacture defect in the block where the crankshaft keeper key slots to lock crankshaft in place in block. The block half of the slot had worn and the crank shaft itself kept slipping out of time. Is it throwing any codes? Gas pedal linkage may well just need a good cleaning and lubrication.
It is not difficult. It is located on the timing cover on the passenger side of the engine. You'll see a wire harness going to a hall effect sensor with a 10mm bolt. They should cost around $80.
However, there was also a Recall in 2003, ID# 46615 involving a bad solder joint on the crank and cam sensor control boards. You can read about it here:
obviously not a mechanic
with bad sensors you would have starting and noticeable engine running problems
have the fault codes read by an accredited service center and check the EVAP system
this vehicle most likely has a bad mass air flow sensor this is something i see alot of on all nissans is the service engine soon light or check engine light on if so have codes read may have a mass air flow code stored as for mechanis checking fuel line and filter any vehicle that comes in our shop 1996 and above with a driveability problem automatically gets hooked to a scanner and checked for diagnostic trouble codes good luck and hope this helps
This is most likely one of your cam shaft sensors. The reason your transmission goes to 5th gear and stays there is because the car automatically goes into "safe mode". This prevents you from running the car on high RPM's which decreases the chance of causing more damage to the engine.
Depending on the code you get from the check engine light, it will be one of the cam-shaft sensors or the crank shaft sensor. A code reader will answer that question.
Often the sensor just fails or oil gets into the connectors which prevents proper reading. This sometimes goes away temporarily when engine is hot but problem will return.
To replace the cam shaft sensors you are looking at approximately 30 min of work. Its a tight fit but not a difficult job.
Cam shaft sensors are about $80. Not sure how much crank haft sensor is.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
