Did you replace all the fuel filters? It sounds like you have a clogged filter and the new pump was strong enough to force some fuel in.....

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. I would say you have an electrical issue somewhere. I have went through similar problems myself. You may have a bad relay or faulty fuel injectors. Check all your wiring around the fuel pump and get some voltage readings on a voltage meter. This can lead to more electrical failures if left untreated. You need to check for spark and check the fuel pressure on your vehicle. Check the plugs and wires. Once you determine the spark and fuel pressure, which ever one is off, begin to test that system. Fuel filter, pump, injectors, fuel lines, relays, sensors, and wiring harness if the fuel is off. Check plugs, wires, coils, coil packs, distributor, distributor cap, rotor, cam sensor, crank sensor, wiring harnesses. You could have a problem with the PCM possibly. All parts need to be tested correctly to determine the cause. Could be a bad wire or loose connection. Check everything.
Pull the pump and check to see if the baffle in the fuel tank has come loose. Over time sometimes the baffle in the tank comes free and knocks against the pump causing it to short and damaging the pump itself. Unfortunately if that is the problem you will have to replace the tank. There is no way to remove the baffle or re-attach it.
