Looking at engine from front of car, the tensioner screws into the left side of the timing cover about half way up. You will see the hex head protruding.

Bmw 318i n46 timing chain marks
No timing marks. All done with special tools. Pin for crankshaft at gearbox end, camshaft alignment tools, cam locking tool, chain tesion tool. If you havent done it before, leave it to a professional.

Just want to find out...does bmw 318i e36 have a timing belt or timing chain?
There are 2 engines used on the 318i. One has a chain the other a belt. The M40B18(1990-1993) uses a cam belt and the M43B18(1993-1998) a chain.

Can you help me fix my central locking on my BMW 318i Convertible the only door that I can open is the drivers the fob wont open anything and the passenger door wont open even with a key any ideas thank...
Sounds like the master control in the drivers door is not working.

You need to make sure you have a good drive belt and verify that the tension is working,if all seems normal then get the alternator or the wiring to it tested.

1997 Convertible BMW 318i top roof storage wont open
Hi, I don`t know the car but sometimes when you can`t open a boot lid someone need to push the boot lid down ( this relase the pressure of the latch system)and the same time someone pull the handle. Hope that helps.

timing chain ? it is 8 vavles ,if both yeah
http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/3-series-e36/m40-motor-timing-info-59059.html that is crankshaft marking and the camshaft marking ,u could see the line up (arrow)marking at the top ,after that turn the crank by hand few time then lines up ,if match then is all good

ignition is electronically controlled and cannot be adjusted. It is controlled by circuits in the Electronics Control Module.
