P1870 Code//Transmission Question

Okay, before i bought this car it has always kicked from 1st gear - 2nd gear decently hard. But now almost a year after buying the car and driving it, i get a P1870 code. The owner before me already had the transmission rebuilt right before i bought it.. so the transmission is about a year old. Went to AAMCO and they want me to rebuild AGAIN! i'm not rebuilding my transmission over a dumb code. What does this code usually have to do with, i know it means Transmission Component Slippage, but what in specific could be wrong? and how much would it cost to fix?

I havent replaced the fluid or the filter.

But the code is already cleared. Its been 1-2 weeks since cleared, the CEL hasn't come back.

But it still kicks hard from 1-2 shift :|

Is there a fix for this?

Fluid & Filter are still good. - UPDATE

Well, it kicks 3-4 also. But, not as much. I think its a pressure problem. The trouble code came on when i was going 60-70 MPH on the highway. So i dont know what it could be, but if the CEL comes back on it wastes my gas like alottttt. So there has to be a fix to it.

Have you had the fluid and filter changed, it could be that simple
try the simple stuff first "ya...know"
after changing it clear the code and see if it comes back.
i have come across this in mid to late '90 model gm's

well the only thing if the fluid and filter is good, my guess would be shift solenoid ...which is a internal part normally they don't pose a threat of damage don't stress it is more annoying than any thing.
the trouble code will come back eventually.....but don't wory your car will continue to drive.

Transmission shifts hard into 2nd and 3rd and has a p1870 code and i replaced siliniod and transmission fluid and pan filter ,also changed throttle pisition sensor . what else could throw this code ?

Check the transmission cooler. If the transmission starts to run hot , it will start to shift hard. The cooler could be clogged and the transmission is not being properly cooled. Also check the fluid you used. GM transmissions can require a special additive that is in the fluid. especially if it has any type of positraction or traction control.

I bought a 1999 jetta volkswagon for my 15 year old son turning 16 next month. The previous owners put a used engine (2000) with 63,000 miles. the car itself has 180,000. I have no problems ******* from 3,...

When you install an engine, you don't "line up" gears. It's likely that either you have a worn shift fork or synchro (both inside the transmission).

Not shifting right

Here's was the code means:
P1870 Transmission Component Slipping

A code that indicates a problem with your tranmission. Ususally causes a hard shift from 1st to second gear. Need to have a transmission expert look at the vehicle. Most cases the torque converter is the main problem. But, sometimes the transmission may need rebuilt if damage has occurred.

2000 GMC 2500 4L80E hard shifting after warm up

1st and 2nd shift solenoids has sediment causing them to stick.or you got damage leaking seals. it might help if you put a little transmedic in transmission dont over fill. if your valve body full of sediment it causing valve in valve body to stick.this might help still might have to go in transmission.

1998 GMC Turns over but won't start

P1870 is a transmission code. This code indicates a slippage in the trans between 1st and 2nd gear shift. This code would likely have nothing to do with your hard/no start issue.

I recently ran into this same problem. My truck has 125,000 miles. The service engine light would come on from time to time. I did as you and got a P1870 code.

The transmission is in 4th gear with the TCC (torque converter clutch) engaged and the ECM has detected excessive slippage when comparing the input shaft speed to the output shaft speed.

Probable causes
  1. Towing a trailer.
  2. Transmission fluid level.
  3. Internal transmission failure.
In my particular case a fluid and filter change solved the problem. I do plan on dropping by the trans shop and let them do a complete service in the near future. (Fluid, filter, band adjust, and check pressure)

Good Luck.
