2009 chevy cobalt key will not turn when inserted & unable to remove ignition switch w/o key being in the on position. Any suggestions other than taking it to the mechanic? Have tried turning steering wheel, moving shifter, brake pedal, pushed white button under steering column cover.

SOURCE: my gear shifter is in

It's a linkage adjustment on the bottom of the vehicle, or the pointer has broken loose from the steering column collar under the steering wheel.

You can sometimes crawl underneath the vehicle to figure out what needs to be adjusted if the problem is down there.

Key is stuck in on position and wont turn off in my 2009 chevy cobalt.

Hello Pete...This is a common problem on the Cobalt, you have a defective switch. GM issued a bulletin on this problem. The ignition switch and housing were replaced to correct it,
Talk to your dealer about it, they are aware of it and should repair it at no cost to you.
Good luck & i hope this helps.

I have a 2008 chevy cobalt the key is stuck in the start and I cant turn it back in the off position

You need a new ignition switch lock cylinder. GM is extremely bad for these things going bad. There not all that expensive to replace.

Can not turn 09 chevy cobalt off. Key will not turn to the left. Also difficult to remove key.

Do you have alot of weight hanging on your key chain? Your ignition tumblers are worn out. Replace the tumblers and it should fix it.

THE DRIVER MAY EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST THAT COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING.
