It could be a any number of problems. It could be a simple vacuum leak somewhere. Either a line could be clogged/disconnected or the head gasket could have a leak. Even a minor one could cause problems. I would also check the air filter. The filter is located to the right of the engine when you are facing it. There should be 5-6 latches. Just unlock those, remove the air filter, and if it looks dirty than just replace it. Wouldn't hurt. You could even have a clogged fuel filter, but on the Elantra the fuel filter and pump is one assembly which requires more work than just a quick fix. I would ultimately suggest that you go down to Autozone or Napa and get one of the older/possibly more experienced individuals take a look at it. If you decide to take it to a garage by yourself, I would suggest that you bring it to one of the reputable, national places but if at all possible still have someone else go with you. As a man, I even had the "reputable" places pressure me into trying to get the work done on the spot, telling me that I am taking a risk by driving the car. I usually let them run a diagnostic and then take it home and fix it myself. If you find a good and honest mechanic--hang onto them even if it means paying more.

Sounds like you have two issues. Your car is running a bit sluggish and the ac compressor running compounds the problem You may want to start with a tune up. Plugs and wires for sure. See if that adds some horsepower back to your vehicle. Have you compressor checked. If your compressor is really faulty and hampering the the serpentine belt from functioning properly the sensors could be sensing your car just about ready to stall and even though your car may not stall the check engine light may come on for just a couple seconds and then go back off. Let me know if this helps.

NO. These models do not have warnings on the transmission failure. There is warnings only when the transmission encounters electrical component failure, overheating(some cars), low fluid. Usually the warning is the O/D flashing light, or a seperate transmission light. Hopefully this helps
