Question about 2004 Saab 9-3

Warning signal Hey, I noticed this morning that the SID display said "Gearbox Malfunction". What would be the cause of that? I turned the car off at first since I couldnt switch gears and when I turned it back on,I was able to switch them, but the display still shows the same error message.

What causes the gearbox warning light to be illuminated

Many many things from engine faults to random signals.Get the car scanned this will give you information on what is going on. Just because it states - gearbox fault - it will not always actually be a true g/box fault (as I have found out in the past with these cars)
Hope this helps - good luck.

Auto transmission will not shift gears

Get diagnostics done and if you will get code P0741 - This trouble code is about damper clutch, which improves fuel economy by matching power transmission effectiveness of automatic transmission Damper clutch consists of control valve and solenoid valve which converts electric signal to hydraulic signal by the TCU signal. Corresponding code will be displayed under following conditions when damper clutch is operated form TCU lock-up output time. -when the difference between engine revolution and input shaft revolution has been below 160 RPM. Torque converter solenoid (TCU) is the last thing you should look at to replace, the cause of its failure might be in a different area like worn seals. Nevertheless it is a serious malfunction of a gearbox as further usage may end in a complete gearbox failure and the only solution you will be left with is to rebuild the gearbox or get a new one. Before you start buying parts you should closlely inspect the inner cover seals for uneven wear or possible damage, short cicuit will be caused by fluid passed onto electric connection,

It could be your clock sensor, or (Also known as) steering squib, it is located in the steering wheel, it can also cause intermittent air bag light warning, cruise control, radio control malfunction of steering wheel controls. It can also cause the horn not to work. If you have any of the other symptoms I would suggest this is your problem.

A warning light showing "steering lock malfunction" came on then disappeared - twice. What's the problem and is the car safe to drive?

If the SID Unit (or profiler) displays "Steering Lock Malfunction" get to your local dealer promptly. There has been issues with the steering lock module and they are now being replaced by Saab under warranty. The module is located under the steering column and must be replaced depending on the part number on the module itself. See your local dealer to find out if your module needs to be replaced.
