I have a 98 chevy s10 4x4 that when in drive the gear indicator "D" flashes. Does this mean anything? Thanks Mike

Valve body on the transmission is not working. There are shift solenoids attached to it that control it so look for a blown fuse first.

It could be due to the electrical board fuses going bad. I had to replace one for my odometer/gear indicator not long ago on my '98 Century. For some reason it's a common problem for Buicks. If you go to YouTube and type in "odometer repair" there is a video that will show you how to do it,if in fact that is the problem. But the gear shift indicator and odometer are all tied in to the same circuit. If you do try to fix,it really helps to have someone else there to hold the fuses steady whenever you are soldering the new ones in.

The old style gear indicator moved on the sleeve of the gear selector that is on the column. Therer is a cable that is connected and run through two pulleys and then the indicator attaches.

may have left a ground wire off behind the dash or the main connector isnt seated all the way in..

indicates a TR sensor or a TCM problem
either of which would have been explained to you along with a quote to fix
they are only sensor problems and not a failing transmission

Drive light flashing indicates stored code/s. Starting and stopping could be filter stopping up. Should have shop check it.
