BAD BUICK I've only had this car for a period of about 6mos. When I first got it, it started racing, the idle was really fast. then about two weeks later the idle slowed way down. Then went almost normal but, while I am driving it will die as when I would approach a stop and take my foot off the excelator or coming up behind a slower car, basically any time I would take my foot off the excelator. But not every single time but multiple times w/i a short distance. I would put it in N and turn the key and it will start right off again, until it happens again. This went on for a period of about 5 mos. I took it to the mechanic, he said that nothing is reading on the diagnostics. So I continue to drive it until three weeks ago when it died and would not start. It died the same as what I described before, except this time it didn't start at all, nothing, would not crank or anything. Left it sit 2 days till I could get someone to tow it, and I got in and it started right away as if nothing was wronge. Drove it for 2days same thing happened again died wouldn't start, sat three days started again, drove one day, shut it off in walmrt parking lot, came back 30mins. later would not do anything. Towed it to the mechanic where it is currently, sometimes it starts sometimes it won't. As of now it won't. Please HELP. This thing is so mystifying.

I had a 1992 Buick Riveria that did the exact same thing.....turns out the problem was the Crank position sensor was going out, and unless you have a diagnostic computer hooked into the port when the engine dies; no trouble code will ever come up. After I had the Crank position sensor replaced...8 months later the problem started over again..the finial solution to that problem was the replacement of the Electronic Ignition Control Module.

02 Toyota echo engine revs up brakes harden fail to engage idling at 40 mph

seems , but can not understand that post lacking periods.
the booster is cracked and sucking vaccum to the engine
..
the brake poster is vacuum powered
but must not leak if does leak the causes and illegall air flow
to the engine main air supply and causes engines to race fast RPM at idle.
now you know why.
even the hose to it can be bad or fell off.
but i bet the booster diaphragm inside is cracked.
the service manual shows the leak down test on boosters all do
.and if it leaks it is bad.
end story.

WHAT WOULD MAKE MY CAR ENGINE WANT TO RACE FORWARD

A few possibilities:
  1. Defective throttle position sensor (TPS);
  2. Bad idle bypass circuit or idle circuit solenoid;
  3. Cracked intake manifold, throttle body assembly, or bad throttle body gasket (most likely);
  4. Serious vacuum leak somewhere.

What can cause a Fast idle on 1999 Ford Escort?

Try cleaning the throttle body and check the gap on all the spark plugs also all electrical sensor plugs and battery terminals this could be related to engine temperature also if to hot rpms stay up longer to cool off but maybe your idle air control valve is bad when did it start?

I have a 94 Buick 3.8L car, it idles to fast. When you do a cold start and put it in gear, it will not idle down to normal. It will idle about 2000-2500 rpm. You can shut off the engine and restart it and...

It sounds like your idle control valve is sticking. The video shows you where they are located on a 97 Buick but it is the same engine.
This video shows you how to replace them.

IAC,,, after start up was still racing, than few starts later was ok,,,for about a month.... racing again...went thru the reset procedure ok for part of the day,,,,racing again giving code for bad IAC,,,...

Had this happen on a Celebrity, and it took a couple of months to find it. It was a cracked
vacuum line located just above the intake manifold. It was very difficult to see. I would
look for short vacuum lines with sharp bends which may be opening and closing on
tension during acceleration or deceleration.

Fast idle

Sounds like your throttle position sensor is bad.
Take it to Auto Zone and ask them to pull any computer codees that may be latched. Not sll codes trigger the check engine light

1993 Buick LeSabre idles too fast

I would Look For A Vacuum Leak, Given the Fact that ALL that Work was Done in a SHORT Amount of Time, And The Brakes ARE VACUUM ASSISTED, that when Brakes are applied the ENG. Light Comes on, Seems to Me It all May be related. It does not take Much to Pop A Vacuum line OFF Accidentally
