Question about Buick Regal

1 Answer

After having the transmission fluid and filter changed on a Regal GS supercharged, the transmission seems to sometimes slip when starting from a stop. I step on the gas to go and after a half second or so it engages, almost feels like the tires are spinning but I am not giving it that much gas. Could there be a connection between changing fluid and this problem? What do you think the problem is? Is it likely (and how soon) that the transmission will completely break down? Thank you, Mark

Who changed the fliud? Maybe the wrong fluid was added. Also some transmissions have bands that can be adjusted. Just be easy on it. You don't wont to burn it out.

Transmission slipping in 95 blazer

You could try a transm. drain and refill and replace the fluid filter while doing so. When you drop the transmission pan (after draining), check for how much metal shavings are in the pan. There should be a magnet on the pan to collect shavings. If it doesn't look like too much, you could proceed with the filter change, then replace gasket for pan and put pan back on, and refill transm. and try it. Sometimes a fluid and filter helps, sometimes not if damage is too severe.

Transmission slips after engine warms up

It isn't when the engine gets hot, it is when the transmission fluid gets hot that the slipping starts, due to wear of the clutches and gears inside the transmission.
First, check the fluid level to make sure it is full. If it is low, bring fluid level to full and see if that helps.
About all the owner can do with slipping automatics is trying a transmission fluid and filter change to see if transmission revives and stops slipping. The bottom pan is removed, fluid (about 6-8 quarts) is drained, and a new filter is installed before the pan is replaced with a new gasket, sealed up, and fresh fluid added. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes the transmission is worn too bad to help, and you are left with looking for a replacement transmission.
Check the fluid level first. Good luck.

My '99 regal LS transmision seems to slip during a fast start away from a stop. It occassionally shifts really hard for a short time, did it twice in the last 10K. Other than that it works perfect,...

Start by checking the transmission level, do it with the car at full operating temperature in Park. pull the red dipstick fluid should be a nice bright red color and between the hash marks for hot checking read the dipstick lots of instruction etched into it. if low as a small amount at a time from bottom of hash mark to top is only half quart do not overfill!!! if color is brown have the fluid and filter change. if the level of fluid is OK have car scanned for coded

My transmission slips sometimes when you come to a dead stop it slips goin to first gear

Make sure you have the correct amount of transmission in the car. If you have never changed the fluid, the fluid and filter probably need changed. If that don't help, your transmission may be bad.

1995 lincoln occasionally has problems getting in gear to go. Seems like it is stuck in neutral. Lasts a few seconds then it gets into gear and goes.

SEEMS LIKE TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW.TRANSMISSION SLIPPING TRYING TO GO IN DRIVE.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL. IF LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL YOU REACH FULL MARK ON TRANSMISSION DIP STICK. WITH ENGINE RUNNING A IN OPERATING TEMPERATURE.IF FLUID LEVEL OKAY.CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER IF YOU HAVE NOT CHANGED IN A LONG WHILE.A DIRTY STOPPED UP FILTER WILL CAUSE TRANSMISSION TO SLIP.CANT PICK UP FLUID.

Slipping in 1at gear

just check the buttom of the pulleys or buttom of the car for leaks or tensioner pulley , sometimes bearings in tensioner wear out i had similar issue with gear slipping it happened to be a leaky water pump and antifreeze getting on the pulleys while the car is running, causing belt to slip and tranny slip feel similar as you described , i replaced belt and water pump and no more issue
