Double check u-joints before suspecting internal problem with transfeer case. Coupling between transmission and transfeer case could be worn, as well as rear slip joint on tail shaft. If not rebuilding the transfeer case yourself, get plenty of refferences before hiring some one to overhall transfercase. InMrFixIt

Heard a clunk while driving diesel ford excursion now when drive and reverse don't work....any ideas what problem is?

If it is a four wheel drive check your tail shaft or drive line by securing the vehicles front wheels jack up the rear tires and in park try to rotate the drive line if you can hear the transmission sound like it is going into gear the transfer case could be damaged! If not a four wheel drive pull the transmission dipstick and look to see if the fluid is dark red or metallic grayish color if so then you're clutch disks inside the tyranny have been worn out and it needs to be rebuilt!

I have a clunknoise from my transfer case how do i fix it

most of the time a clunk from under the vehicle when shifting gears (whether going forward or reverse) is a u-joint. check them at both ends of the drive shaft. (possibly 1 in the middle, not familiar with your particular truck)

Was pulling out onto the highway when truck shifted from 1st to second gear a clunk noise happened n now i have a whining sound and no reverse. transfer case or transmission?

this sounds like the ******. if it were the transfer case then you would loose all foward and reverse gears, but since its just reverse i would say its in the ****** and also the whinning noise is very common when the pump is going bad, have the ****** checked out. good day.

02 yukon denali has a whining noise similar to bad wheel bearings. wheel bearings were just replaced. could it be cv's, no clunking sound though. also, sometimes the vehicle ''jerks'' when accelerating,...

the jerking and noise you are experiencing is the drive chain and bearings in the transfer case also you may want to check the end play in both front and rear pinion bearings and yokes

Transfer case noise

your u joints are gone.it is common on gm trucks,as they are a sealed unit and the needle bearings rust .there are replacement u joints available that have grease nipples on them. there should be very little play, less than 1/8 inch.

Truck makes a clunk when intially put into gear

Look for dust like rust color at either U-joint, my guess is it's time to change at least one, but if I did one, I'd do other too.
