2009 Toyota Corolla LE. Would the Check Engine light on a car be flashing or solid if the ignition coil were the problem?

I would take it to a mechanic who knows what to do.
Personally, I would replace the coil pack that is giving trouble and if the spark plugs have done 60000 miles, replace them for peace of mind.
You should get a misfire code, cylinder 1 would be P0301, cylinder 2 would be P0302 etc.

I was told my three rear ignition coils needed to be replaced. I replaced them to save money , my emissions light turned off and than turned back. Originally the car would idle high and shake when in

No the cat converter can not unless it is plugged but the cylinder misfire can cause the cat to go bad. a engine idling high means a vacuum leak and misfire.

1994 Grand Cherokee, 5.2 V8 shuts off when hot. Cool for an hour or 2, starts up ok for a half hour or so, then dies again. No trouble codes except 12 and 55; I pulled fuses to check them, hence the code...

Your engine computer is bad. It's a good thing that you mentioned about the check engine light dying also, as this is a classic sign of a bad ecm. I have repaired more than one of these Jeep computers, replacing the three power capacitors located inside the computer, and they have worked for years afterwards. If you don't have the skills or knowledge to repair the ecm, get yourself a rebuilt ecm unit and swap it out.

It was running fine and then all of a suddun its running rough, it wont shift over and the engine light is blinking.. its a custom 2001 buik century. we need to fix the car so we can get back and forfth to...

flashing engine light means engine misfire. let car idle and mist the plug wires down with water, rev the engine up and down and look for little sparks jumping from the wires. and arcing wires can cause problems. before changing any bad wires check the coil packs where the wires plug in the three small boxes on the top back of motor. they are three packs with two wires each. one pack at a time take the two wires off to reveal the coil towers. have an assistant start the motor and make sure the spark goes from tower to tower. repeat on remaining two packs. if the spark goes straight down the tower the coil needs replaced. if there is no spark, the coil needs replaced.

Put a code reader or scanner on it. Sounds like a Throttle Position Sensor or Bad Coil. The TPS is avail on line or at auto parts. You DO NOT have to replace the entire throttle body, if sensor fails. Coils are $51.00 or maybe less on line.

My car sputters when accelrating and the check engine light stays on. i was told it maybe the coil packs going bad. any insight on the matter will be muchly appreciated

Start with replacing all the spark plugs. Then drive. If it happens again it's your coils. Don't buy them used, and it's honestly better to buy them online from a website like partstrain.com or ebay.com. Dealership wanted 119.00 a piece, plus labor. I got them online, all 8 for a little under 450 after shipping. And it takes about an hour to do it yourself. All I can say is be gentle when getting the coils/plugs out.

Cylinder 5 Misfire detected

it sonds like you have a coil braking down if your engine light was on and it told you cylinder #5 i would replace that coil and spark plug make sure when you pull the coil out that it does not have oil on it if it does then you have a valve cover gasket leaking oil into the plug galley and you will need to replace that first.

Intermittent Problem

Not sure if my situation helps or not, but here you go.....

I have a 2006 H3 that has 21,000 miles, last week my husband was driving and lost power, service engine came on, and it kept flashing stabilization problem. Called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. Dealership said it was a dead battery and replaced it. Took the vehicle home and didn't drive for a couple of days. Drove again a couple of days later with no problems. 2 days later tried to start and vehicle had no power could not start at all. Called road side assistance and had it again towed to dealership. Dealership told us the main computer was bad and had to be replaced. We were told it is NOT a common problem, heres hoping we don't have any other issues with the vehicle.
