I tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped
me repair transmission problem in my ford explorer. it wont move forward or reverse, engine is good both solenoids for forward and reverse work.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and works perfect! got it from www.reliable-store.com
I had almost the same problem, I checked to the bushing on the shift cables and they were gone. I found the kit at orielly's auto for $8. its a manual cable bushing kit
No reverse and only second,You have a internal mechanical transmission failure,This had nothing to do with you using cruise control,The transmission was ready to fail
It sounds very much as though your transmission is faulty. The only way is to take it to a transmission repairer who will be able to properly diagnose it for you. Given the age of the car, it may not be economical to repair the transission and you may be better to source a 2nd hand one from a wrecker.
look on the base of the shifter near the indicator there is a little cover remove it and poke down on it with a screwdriver or anything that will fit then move it out of gear
You most likely have a broken sunshell inside the transmission. They tend to go out when the transmission is shifted to drive when while still rolling in reverse.
Have a code check done and see if speed sensor or controller is working properly. if bought from a dealer, get it back there asap...they can't sell it in that condition!!...No test drive before you ploped down your money?
STOP Downshifting!
STOP Forcing gear change, watch the Engine RPMs and shift accordingly, HOMBRE's are as good as the operator's. Hombre's have dash shift indicators which illuminate when it's time to 'shift' and not before, This has nothing to do with gear oil either. If you've drained it, you best fill it immediately and make sure it's ample level. The heat these gears sustain in is inceredible, cooling lubricant is essential. Here's a tip, while engine is OFF, ignition key is engaged, dash is illuminated, depress clutch peddle, keep it depressed and walk through all gears with gear shift, shifting should be smooth and unpeded, including reverse. If resistance is experienced at one or more gears, gear alignment is off as a result of inproper gear shifting while driving. Continue to drive vehicle just shift slower until clutch needs replacement then do an entire drive shaft upgrade. It worth it, it's great truck.
