Tail lights work rear but the brake lights don't

  • pastorbenwbc Aug 29, 2008

The fuse to the rear brake lights is okay. The upper brake light works. But the left and right rear brake lights do not work. I replaced both bulbs with no success. Is this a common problem with a common solution?

If you were changing the speakers in the back of your truck u might have connected two wires that look like they go together. i did that with my old jeep and had the same problem. check if they are connected and if they are just un-connect it and ur good to go....

The turn signals and brake lights use the same circuit and filament in the bulbs. The tail lights are on the other circuit which comes from the headlight switch.

When I turn my lights on my tail lights work but when I hit my brakes the don't light up I have a 2001 vw beetle????

the brake lights don't light up or the taillights don't light up? the brake lights are brighter than the tailights so the tailights won't show up whenbrakes are applied. if no lights work when brakes are applied then check for a bad ground at the light assembly.

Check the ground for your rear lights. It's probably one single ground for all the rear lights, though I don't know that for sure. If it's not a grounding issue, it must be a loose power connection.

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy. Have tail lites but no brake lites. Third lite on top works whet brakes applied

Since the high mounted brake light works you know that the brake light switch is working. Now you need to check the brake light bulbs in the rear tail light assemblies. The brake lights are separate from the tail light (parking or running lights). There are two screws that hold the rear light assemblies in place.

Tail lights and brake lights not working - not fuse - what can it be?

Brake light switch, located on upper brake pedal should be checked, that is most likely your brake light issue, but U say tail lights aren't working, but running lights do, tail lights and running lights I would consider to be the same, so can u clarify that for me? Let me know how the u do w/ brake light switch, and if u have issue w/ tail lights?
