There is no dipstick on your tranmission. There is a fill plug that needs to be removed to check the level once the trans fluid temp reaches 30-40 degrees C. When the fluid is full it will drip out of that fill plug. The fill plug is the 8mm hex on the passenger rear of the trans case.

My transmission fault message is coming on and it does not want to accelerate fast. do you have any answers? My Jaguar is a xj8 1997 model

A small leak over period time will cause fault light (amber) to come on. There is no dipstick. Can only be refilled by dealer or certified Jag Mechanic. Cost of fluid at dealer $60. Quart. Check online; $15 quart

How do i check the auto gearbox oil level on a r reg xj8 3.2 v8.the reversr gear slips in reverse

Inject fluid until it overflows from the plug orifice.

when you take out the plug the fluid should be right there if not it is low.

but in your case you may have burnt clucthes ect.

99 Jag xj8l stopped shifting low gears, only goes in high gear.

You will need to have your tranny rebuilt or get a replacement. As a mechanic myslef, I have seen this a few times in the Jag XJ series. Those people eneded up having tranny replaced as well.

1998 honda passport auto transmission slips

CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO SEE IF IT IS LOW. THERE SHOULD BE A COLD LEVEL AND A HOT LEVEL. WITH THE TRANS IN PARK AND HOT, ENGINE RUNNING PULL THE DIPSTICK TO SEE IF THE TRANS NEEDS FLUID. WHEN ADDING, MAKE SURE THE PROPER FLUID IS USED. IF THE TRANS FLUID LEVEL IS OK BUT THE TRANS FLUID SMELLS BURNED OR IS VERY DARK THEN HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED WITH FLUID AND FILTER. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR ANY COMMENTS. BEST OF LUCK

1998 clio 1.6 auto......loses forward drive but reverse is ok and sometimes goes in gear and is ok then after a few yards loses it again

Hmmm, Seems like one of two things
1- Transmission gearing going bad, talk to AAMCO they can rebuild auto tranny's for about a grand or so.
2-torque converter has lost it, but that would also affect reverse.
