Engine light on and car shaking some time - 2003 Honda Civic

Buy an OBD2 (OBDii) reader and check the engine fault code history.
Wifi, bluetooth, or wired devices are available on ebay.

Sounds like it's time for new plugs.

Major transmission problem. That's what the flashing Check Engine light means.

If the Check Engine light is on all the time, it means there is a "fault code" stored in the computer. Take it to an auto parts store (like Auto Zone) and ask them to read the codes to see what it says. They should do it for free. If they won't, go to another auto parts store.

How about timing? How about the distributor and rotor? What about the timing chain?

you have a bad engine missfire. a flashing check engine light means you are in danger of damaging your catylitic converter and you should scan the car. most causes of missfires are plug wires and or coil pack.

i have a 2003 mazda protege. this is the third time my check engine light has come on. the first time the car started to shake when i stopped at a light and the check engine light came on. i had a readout done and it said misfire. i took it to a garage and they changed my spark plugs and wires. 2 weeks later it came on again and my car started to shake whenever i stopped. readout said misfire. they fixed the coils. it has been 2 weeks since then and my car started shaking again whenever i stop and the light came on. what could possibly be wrong with it?

I had the same problem. It was the intake gasket, very common in this model. A $12.00 gasket - Nissan wanted $1000.00 to install it. I got it done for $327.00 - engine light still remains on but car drives just fine.

Not sure what is causing it, but it sounds like you're running on 3 cyllinders. Check plugs, wires, timing . timing belt may have jumped, bad injector, low fuel pressure.

I had the shaking problem too, had the #5 coil replaced and the shaking instantly stopped.
