Tank is not venting properly when fueling. Check the vent line (which is the small line on the fill line) and also replace your fuel cap.
Hope this helps

It could be an emmissions problem. Sometimes even the gas cap being loose can cause a code. Make sure to tighten the cap when done should hear repetitive clicks when its tight. Other components related to code p0172 are o2 sensor(bank 1) and catalytic converters. Hope this helps!

My jeep is throwing a code for a vapor leak. ive checked all hoses nothing to seems to be leaking but my jeep has a very strong odor of gas

Your problem is most likely coming from your gas cap. Your vehicle's gas cap may seem tight, but the rubber washer around the inner edge of the gas cap may be defective. Go purchase another gas cap for your car at one of the nearest auto part's location's nearest you. Change the gas cap and reset your vehicle's computer by taking the positive terminal off for a minute and replace the battery cable back on the vehicle. This method reset's your vehicle's computer. If the gas cap is the main problem, your check engine light won't come back on and your problem is solved. Gas is highly combustible and dangerous. always use precaution's when doing any work on your vehicle that require's working with any part's associated with any part's of the gas emission's system including the gas tank, gas cap, purge solenoid, charcoal canister, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc., etc. the gas smell can also be coming from a broken or faulty rubber gas line or the metal clamp's connected to the rubber hose's located between the gas tank fill valve and the gas tank itself. there are several black rubber gas hose's associated with the gas tank. have a qualified technician check the gas emission's system for any and all leak's gas also evaporate's fast, do to the combustibility again always use caution when attempting any and all repair's requiring checking the gas or emission's evaporation system. Sincerely Crystopper.

In the solution for the po440 code on the 2001 toyota camry ce, what's a filler cap?

The filler cap is the GAS CAP. This code will come on if you forgot to tighten ( or drove around with it hanging) your gas cap after filling up the gas tank. If this is the case then all you have to do is tighten the gas cap until 3 clicks are heard. The code will reset itself after several days of driving. If the code does not reset then you may have a defective gas cap or another leak in the fuel emission system.

99% of the time the code is caused by a gas cap that was not tightened properly.

here are more details for P0440

I got a code of PO455 can you explain to me what that actually is??

P0455 is a Large Evaporative System Leak. Usually caused by a loose gas cap. If the cap WAS loose, tighten it up and just drive the car, it may take a few days for the computer to run the tests and and confirm that its OK and will turn the light off by itself. If the cap is tight, then make sure the seal is good, if it is, then the leak is somewhere else, usually on Jeeps I find hoses cracked near the canister, so thats where to start if the gas cap is tight and good.

Check engine light came on Tuesday afternoon, after I filled the gas tank on Monday afternoon. If the check engine light came on because of the gas cap not being on tight enough, do I just tighten the gas...

Check engine light might have came on because of loose gas tank cap, but it's a good idea to read the code and check if it's not something else, you can take your car to an Auto Zone and they read the code for free and tell you the cause also. But if you want to reset the check engine light, only way is to disconnect the battery terminals and let it set overnight, check engine light will be reset. Hope it helps and let me know if you need more advice. Please don't forget to rate the answer it helps with my ratings, thanks!

I Own 98 dodge Dakota check Engine light, code PO 442 Evap Emission Control System Leak (small). Gas fill pipe is rusted, Should flapper hold back air with gas cap removed?

No the flap inside the fuel filler pipe is just an anti theft device to make it more difficult to siphon fuel out of the tank. The most likely cause for the code it the fuel cap itself. If you don't get the gas cap tight after you fuel up, it can set a computer code and turn on the Check Engine Light. After you check to make sure the cap is on tight, clear the engine code and see if it comes back on. If it does then have the fuel cap tested to make sure that it doesn't have a vaccuum leak.

Check gas cap indicator light

Hi. this situation concerns a lose gas cap that you may have forgotten to tighten correctly during a recent fill up at your local gas station or, it could be that the original gas cap or replacement gas cap is not sealing the cap area correctly, preventing proper fuel pressure.

Check the gas cap to see if its tight and that it clicks when you turn it. make sure you turn until it clicks. this will ensure a secure fit.

Now, if you have just recently bought a new replacement cap, it may be the wrong fit and i would recommend purchasing the original replica form the dealership to ensure a tight fit.

Please rate and god bless:)

Check engine notice

Its probably because you had car running while filling up or you didn't tighten gas cap tight enough after fueling up. Here is what you do first tighten gas cap until it makes a click. Then disconnect your positive battery cable for ten(10) minutes and then reconnect. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU HAVE A CODED RADIO THAT YOU HAVE THE CODE FOR IT READY WHEN YOU RECONNECT BATTERY. Good LUCK contact if you need more help and Thanks for using FIX YA.
