try disconecting the coolant temp sensor and then try, it may be faulty, also check the hall sender unit in the distributor, if it has one, the centre pin should be the signal wire if no pulse is present the sensor is faulty

SOURCE: VW Polo Classic 1997 IDLE Problems

Hello, VW polos 1.0, 1.4. 1.6, suffer from carbon bulid up in the throttle bodys causing bad idling, esp the Bosch Mono-Motronic (Throttle Body Injection systems), a good clean with carb cleaner should repair the problem, also engine temp sensor replacement and idle speed control valve replacement can help idle problems.

SOURCE: VW Polo Classic, fuel efficiency problem

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.

If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.

Idle rpm adjustment set correctly, when put it in drive car dies. when I adjust so car wont die in gear, as soon as I put it in park the idle goes real high. whats wrong?

There is throttle plate adjustment and idle air mixture adjustment x2 so 3 items to adjust. If the carb is clean and you have NO vacuum leaks the engine should run fine. One trick for a better idle is to run full vacuum at idle speed on the dist vac advance if you have a vac advance rather than a ported vacuum which applies vac only at open throttle.

94 st ford probe auto wont idle down when you stop at lights idles at 1500rpm takes about30 seconds to get to 500rpm ?

Could have vacuum leak , dirty throttle plate , idle air control problem . Would have to do some testing an inspecting to say what the fix would be. An don't adjust base idle screw , it will mess up the computer .

If unfamiliar with these thing's your best bet would be to take to a qualified repair shop . Ford IAC valve test how to adjust minimum idle speed Check out some more videos on testing idle control

Hello I have a 1980 Ford Bronco 351 2bbl. Wondering if anyone knows which screws adjust what? Please if anyone has any ideas please respond. Thank you.

Here are some images that might help to assist you, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

Adjust the curb idle with the engine warmed up and the choke off.

The air/fuel mixture screws should be adjusted with the engine warmed up and at normal idle speed, then turn each air/fuel mixture screw in one at a time until the engine just begins to mis-fire, then back the air/fuel mixture screw out 1-1/2 to 2 turns out a half a turn at a time until the engine idle is the smoothest. (your vehicle might have restrictor caps over the air/fuel mixture screws to limit the amount of adjustment)

The choke adjustments;

To adjust the vacuum tension pull on the choke pull-off:

Adjust the fast idle screw to the proper RPM with the engine cold and the choke on.

It keeps stalling i put in a new alternator and a new battery i dont know if i have a short or not i see my car idling at 600 rpm is that normal or did the screw come lose on the idle thingy? when i had...

try cleaning the throttle body.that will definatly affect your idle. if it still does it look on throttle body for an air bypass screw i dont know if a 04 has one but all the older ones will be a screw head that is recessed in a holeit may have a rubber plug on top of it. anyway if it does give it a couple turns out and see if idle goes up then adjust to whatever it says on the emmision label.
DONT mess with the scew that adjusts the throttle stop once out of adjustment you wont be able to put it back

Starts but wont stay running. You have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running

This sounds like a problem with the idle control. The idle control has to be adjusted. If it's not an idle control, then it would help to know the year, make and model of the car and the mileage on the car. At the simplest, it's the idle control. However, it may also be a problems with the car's ECU.

im sorry to say that the idle screw wont fix your problem, that just keeps the idle at the right rpms. could be bad plug wires or anything please take to a different shop.

Nissan ga15 engine idle adjustment locations

The idle speed is computer controled, it is not adjustable, you most likely have sludge in the throttle valve and the idle speed control air bypass valve, clean them with carb spray with the engine running.
