Question about 2002 Volvo S80
I recently had maintenance performed on my 02 S80, (changing the timing belt and transmission service). When starting a cold start, the gear shift lights and instrument panel gauge which indicates the gear position, does not come on until the car reaches 3rd gear. Also feels like it is taking more rpms, to get it going until the 3rd gear kicks in.
Transmission needs servicing and the position sensor is not in the correct place. Your Volvo dealer can sort that out as a warranty job on the repair you have just had done by them. If you didb't use a Volvo Workshop, best of luck!

It sounds like the gear selector module is going out. Other than replacing it I don't have much for you. I would take it to a shop you trust and have them run the codes to see if your getting a faulty signal code.
Sorry I can't help more.

you need a technician with a diagnostic tool.. The thing about these cars is every time you do something you need to reset the counter on the cars computer.. This can only be done with a diagnostic tool
