1997 Dodge Neon DOHC

I did investigate the message you sent previously.
I checked out your answer yesterday evening and I found out the scan tool you are talking about is a much more costly one then I have for my use.
Is there away to reset the autos computer with out the unit you are talking about?
The meter I have is called INNOVA 3100a. I called the MFG and was told no this meter didn't have that ability. It is a lot like the one that AutoZone uses.

Thank you

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but was called out of town.

I have done the compression test and the findings were good enough to rule out bent valves I think.

    #1 200 PSI

    #2 200 PSI

    #3 165 PSI

    #4 205 PSI

I know the number three is a little low however I think it is high enough to rule out a bent valve right??

I would like to think you for trying to help I normally don’t have very many things in cars that give me problems but this one has really been a mind blower.

It was hard to understand from my point of view, what you had looked into. I am sure that it was hard for you to figure out which responses were worth looking into as well.

I would try to remove the negative battery cable for about 15- 20 minutes.

This should clear any codes present, and reset the comp.

Additionally, I believe that it is possible that if the belt broke while running, there could be some valve damage, and this could cause the poor running condition that you are experiencing.

A compression test could help identify this.

Best of Luck!

How to turn off check engine light on a 1997 dodge neon

You will require an error code reading machine, Which can be bought from car auto stores at low prices, You only need a cheap one to read the current error codes if you are sure everything has been fixed then clear error codes saved onto car system, However investigate each error code so you don't keep resetting the light when its coming on due to a fault with the engine.

I have a Dodge Neon 2006 which was working fine

you may be right, try a spare key, that will elimanate the key chip, you will need a scan tool to diagnose this problem, also with key in crank position is there power at starter, the scan tool can tell yuo if computer is reading key chip signal and if signal if right and also you can see if starter is receiving start signal, good luck.

97 neon oil leak

Solution: Maybe.

Rear main seal is probably the problem.

My 1997 Dodge Neon has this same problem. My father-in-law (who used to be a mechanic) checked the car for me and found the rear main seal needs replacing.

1999 Dodge Neon R/T hand Brake

You have a broken cable, or one of its parts. You need to trace the cable from the "pull" back to where it splits to go to the left and right rear brakes, and finally to each rear brake. You will most likely need to get under the vehicle and for this you will need to jack it up. Please be safe, or if uncomfortable, take to a trained mechanic, that should be able to fix this for very little money.

If you choose to go it yourself, please check out this article.
