I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it ran hot recently and we replaced the thermostat. It has worked fine for about 6 weeks and tonight it did the same thing. I was waiting at a drive-thru window and my alarm went off telling me to check gauges. When I looked down my temperature gauge was all the way over on 260 and you could hear the water actually boiling. Do you have any idea what could be causing this to happen again so quickly? Thanks for any advice.

Need to check the condition of the coolant, if it's original it has a 5 year life, just flush and fill with same kind, I think they were using the red colour stuff by then, do not switch types, use what they started with, some don't mix well and will give you fits.
another check is the condition of your fan, the one on the water pump should move freely when the enging is cold, if it is a max cooling system you need to check a few sites to get info as there are parts and hydraulic connections involved , after driving and with the engine TURNED OFF, check it again, should be way harder to turn, if not it should be replaced, also check the fins of the radiator to see if you have some dirt or debris in there, you can pressure wash it out but be careful not to get too close to it while doing that as the water pressure can bend the fins.
Last, there may be an electric fan in front of the fan mounted on the water pump, it kicks on when the engine needs a little extra cooling, my 93 doesn't have this but to check it just turn on your ac, I believe it turns on whenever the ac is careful with these fans and work safe as it is really easy to get hurt if you get in a hurry.
good luck

i believe yours is rhd that is why you are asking this. if you have no HID modern xenon lights ( probably you dont on WJ), you need to get a black tape and mask the upper 1/3 of your head lights to remove the V marking of light on road. ( which is to illuminate the right side of road) by this way you wont blinding incoming traffic.

Engine trouble light coming on 2003 jeep gr. cherokee

If the light is ywllow, it's emmissions or some sensor. You can drive to a service center and have the codes read. If the light is red...STOP!! and check engine oil. DO NOT drive further!! Have it towed in for service.

A/C blows warm air

Have your a/c tech look at the pressures at an idle. It sounds like the condensing coil does'nt have enough airflow or the compressor is week. Another possible problem could be that the temp control door is'nt operating properly. Hope this helps. Good luck.
